The Associate Software Technician will be the primary resource for basic software development, assisting in creating tools to support SPE's technical initiatives, especially those in proof-of-concept states. The candidate will work in a small R&D team for requirement creation, development, and deployment of software projects, which may become operationalized products. Responsibilities include developing in-house tools, integrating workflows, deploying tools in local and virtual environments, creating software requirements, generating test datasets, tracking and correcting bugs, and writing documentation. The role requires strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and adaptability. The role also expects one to work independently under limited supervision to accomplish small tasks that require coordination between multiple departments and people. Also, a keen interest in Media Technology, Media and Entertainment is highly regarded.
Must have:
  • Develop in-house tools and scripts for testing and production use.
  • Integrate workflow and automation of developed software.
  • Develop tools for local and virtual environments deployment.
  • Create software requirements from published standards.
  • Create test sample datasets for software functionality.
  • Track and correct bugs.
  • Write detailed code documentation.
  • Mac, Windows, and Linux computer systems familiarity.
  • Competency with Python, Javascript/Typescript, React, Vite, HTML, BASH, and GOLang.
  • Understanding of Data carriers: XML, JSON, ALE, CSV
  • Fluency in GitHub, Terraform, Cloud deployment, Docker containers, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, REST API
  • Competency with Postman building collections and testing API services

Job Details

The Technology Development (Tech Dev) team leads the research and deployment of production and consumer focused technical initiatives across Sony Picture Entertainment (SPE). The wide gamut of requirements from the different business sectors within SPE requires that the TechDev team engage with a broad range of internal customers, Sony Group corporate partners and industry collaborators around the world to help further enhance Sony Pictures business through adoption of new technologies.

The Associate Software Technician will act as the primary resource for basic software development to assist in the creation of the tooling needed to support greater SPE technical initiatives, especially those in proof-of-concept states.  Candidate will work in a small team of R&D specialists who will help in requirement creation, development, and deployment of software projects.  These projects the candidate participates in may well become products operationalized by the greater IT and operations teams if adopted at the studio.  The candidate will be required to support these teams by documenting software both inline of the code developed as well as supporting errata. 

Project areas may include Cloud-based software development and deployment, stand-alone application development for desktop platforms such as MacOS, Windows, and Linux, as well as webpage design and back-end web applications.

Responsibilities

  • Development of in-house tools and scripts for testing and production use

  • Bug tracking and correcting as necessary
  • Write detailed supporting documentation of code functions with example usage
  • Document policy, procedures and code

Skills

  • Mac, Windows, and Linux computer systems familiarity (highly preferred)
  • Learn OpenTimline.IO
  • Competent with Python, Javascript / Typescript, React, Vite, HTML, BASH, and GOLang
  • Understanding of Data carriers: XML, JSON, ALE, CSV
  • Fluency in GitHub, Terraform, Cloud deployment, Docker containers, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, REST API
  • Competency with Postman building collections and testing API services

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or relative certifications preferred
  • 1-3 years employment in a technology-based position

The anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000 - $97,500. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
