Job Title: Director of Strategic Fundraising
Reports to: Chief Sustainable Funding Officer (CFSO)
Location: Lindsay, Ontario or Nunavut
Salary:  $80,000/year ( Southern Canada) $105,000/year (Nunavut)

The Role:
The Director of Strategic Fundraising role at Pinnguaq represents an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced and creative leader in the fundraising ecosystem. The role requires innovative approaches to strategy development, fast-paced decision-making and the ability to recognize and respond to trends across the non-profit, charitable and industry granting sectors. This role will be the strategic and hands-on lead for both our non-profit and charitable foundation fundraising.  The role will focus on identifying, developing strategic approaches and securing revenue streams for capital infrastructure, education curriculums, workforce development initiatives, publication and digital skills training among other areas. This is a key leadership role within our organization that requires effective internal and external relationship-management leading to a strong understanding of our organizational model, programs and activities as anchored by our lifecycle approach. The role also requires strategic and dynamic team leadership to thoughtfully motivate and set team members up for success in their work and to achieve their professional goals.

Reporting to the Chief Sustainable Funding Officer, you will participate in the decision-making process and lead implementation. You will come to the role with a strong grasp of the non-profit/charitable sector funding landscape and be willing to learn more to apply innovative fund-seeking approaches. You will lead systems and processes designed to identify funding opportunities, build and maintain a sophisticated ongoing opportunity pipeline and undertake effective and efficient proposal writing. You will also bring to the role experience and intuition for effective engagement with potential funders.

As a Director of Strategic Fundraising, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and leading strategic and innovative approaches to fundraising from goal-setting and related planning and fund identification through to successful proposal submission
  • Understanding and leading the grant and proposal writing process from fund focus and priorities alignment and articulation of impact through to project budget design
  • Managing the work and performance of the Fundraising team of proposal writers and administrative coordinators
  • Directing and sometimes executing on all aspects of grant/proposal submission (including grant/proposal writing) and necessary follow-up on any related pre/post award issues (ie., Contract Agreements,  Letters of Support).
  • Effectively navigating and guiding the navigation of Government grant and charitable program portals, program guidelines and application requirements to ensure effective proposal writing.
  • Supporting the ongoing resilience of the organization by implementing systems and frameworks for forecasting needs/gaps and securing multi-year gifts/grants wherever possible by tracking giving/granting trends and taking all necessary steps to expand the donor/funder base and elevate revenue streams.
  • Working with the CFSO to ensure policies, finance and administration procedures as well as fundraising strategies and campaigns are aligned with requirements and organizational needs
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge including awareness of industry best-practices.
  • Working effectively and efficiently in a fast growing and agile organizational environment in order to pursue opportunities as they arise
  • With support from our other Departments and Divisions (Program Delivery, Education, Productions, Partnerships), proactively understand the needs of the communities we work in to develop relevant and valuable funding strategies and solutions.
  • Building relationships at a senior level within the organization and be recognized as a trusted advocate for the Fundraising team.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment, onboarding, mentorship/coaching, knowledge transfer and performance management of employees to reach their highest potential through opportunities for professional growth.
  • Create a learning environment through leadership, process and resources including effective use of project management tools.

Attributes and Qualifications: 
The successful candidate for the Director of Strategic Fundraising position will have the following qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience including pre and post-award processes from prospecting and proposal writing to successful agreement negotiation.
  • Progressive senior level team management and fundraising leadership experience with a proven track record of success.
  • Experience with multi-level government granting agencies and private funding organizations is required.
  • A strong leader and manager of people who excels at cultivating meaningful relationships with diverse groups.
  • Experience working with equity deserving groups, including Indigenous organizations in rural and remote locations.
  • Advanced awareness of fundraising practices and principles in the non-profit and charitable sectors including CRA regulations as they pertain to charitable giving.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, verbal and written communication is required.
  • Proficiency in all or some of Google Suite, Adobe applications, Donor Perfect, Monday.com  is preferred.
  • Ability to apply solid organizational and time management to meet due date driven projects, balancing multiple competing priorities to support team activities and proactive follow-up.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, able to thrive in a fast-paced, high growth evolving environment with ambitious goals and multiple priorities
  • Results-oriented personality with a collegial management approach and high level of integrity working as part of a larger collaborative team
  • A sample of a couple pieces of writing will be required.
