Overview

Do you want to work as part of a small engineering team creating a new style of multiplayer action RPG? As a gameplay engineer, you’ll work closely with designers and other engineers to help bring our games to life.

Who We Are

At Noodle Cat Games, we are redefining how games are made by weaving trust, creativity, and empathy into everything we do. Our dedicated team is building a vibrant new IP filled with color, mystery, danger, and excitement. We devote as much energy to fine-tuning our internal operations and work environment as we do to developing memorable experiences for our players. The best games are made by groups of people with diverse skills and experiences, and our small studio encourages individual creativity and contributions.

What We Offer

  • 8-hour days, 4-day work weeks, a methodology our team holds in high regard.
  • A generous equity signing bonus, with additional salary/equity options.
  • 100% of premium medical insurance covered by Noodle Cat, plus essential dental and vision with the flexibility to upgrade for your perfect fit
  • Fully remote work, flexible hours, and minimal meetings
  • A collaborative work environment that prioritizes personal accountability and autonomy over management

Who You Are

You are a gameplay engineering generalist who isn’t afraid to dive into unfamiliar areas. As a pragmatic and creative problem solver, you’ll find a way to tackle any challenge. You’ve built modular gameplay systems and collaborated with designers to ship gameplay using them. You understand that rapid iteration is key to a great game, and are driven to ‘find the fun’ by creating satisfying gameplay in addition to engineering excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement new modular gameplay systems
  • Implement and debug online multiplayer gameplay
  • Empower designers with easy-to-use frameworks, tools, and APIs
  • Collaborate with the design team on elements of moment to moment gameplay and progression
  • Propose gameplay changes, features, and improvements (the best proposal is a prototype)
  • Incorporate feedback and ideas from the team

What You Bring

  • A 4 year education or equivalent experience, such as mods and personal projects
  • Proficiency in C++ with a deep understanding of gameplay systems, mechanics, and tools

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The attitude of a lifelong learner and the willingness to wear many hats
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and provide optimal solutions for complex problems.
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently
  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills
  • Product sense, pragmatism, and player empathy in making tech decisions

Bonuses

  • Familiarity with the UE Ability System and UE replication is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with developing for multiple platforms
  • Experience building procedural generation systems
  • Experience with gameplay AI such as behavior trees
