Head of Corporate Media Relations

Description -

Head of Corporate Media Relations

At HP, we believe in the power of technology to drive meaningful progress. HP is positioned to redefine how we interact with the technology that fuels our work, creativity and play. As we lead the industry – and the world – into this new era, we need bold thinkers who believe that we can always do more. Accepting the status quo doesn’t exist in our DNA.  And it’s the strength of our people who drive our success – because one thoughtful idea has the power to change the world.

HP’s Corporate Affairs team is on a mission to change the way HP communicates and the way stakeholders engage with our brand. As a member of Corporate Affairs, you will be at the forefront of that mission, shaping and sharing our most important stories and inspiring audiences in new and unexpected ways. To further that work we are seeking a talented storyteller and strategic thinker with a passion for media to join our Corporate Communications team.

As the Head of Corporate Media Relations, you will be responsible for advancing HP's media strategy and securing positive media exposure for our company priorities. You will lead a small but mighty media team and collaborate across the business to identify, create and promote stories that showcase HP's vision, values and impact.  You will also oversee media agencies and handle the creation of media materials and activities. You will report to the Global Head of Corporate Communications and partner with senior leaders across the organization including Executive Leadership, Employee communications, Design, Product, Legal, Supply Chain, Government Relations, Human Resources and other key corporate functions. To excel in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of media relations, current events and media trends, as well as an extensive network of media relationships. You will also need to have outstanding communication, writing and analytical skills, and the capacity to work in a dynamic, forward-looking environment. Demonstrated experience in leading teams and individuals is preferred.

  • Proactively engage across the business to identify corporate-level, pan-HP stories and create actionable plans to bring those stories to life through new and traditional mediums.

  • Serve as a senior member of the Corporate Communications team, partnering with the Global Head of Corporate Communications to advance clear priorities and manage the business including media agency and budget management.

  • Serve as the lead expert and thought partner for the Corporate Communications team on media topics, including prioritizing the right stories, handling information flow, resolving issues and providing counsel on issues and opportunities.

  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities. Oversee preparation of talking points and other supporting material for media engagements.

Qualifications

  • At least 10-15 years of communications experience in a corporate or agency environment

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to foster strong working relationships within complex organizations

  • Technology industry experience a plus, but not a requirement.

  • Deep understanding of the media business and emerging trends, with a strong, existing media network

  • Track record of an always on media mindset including landing proactive, focused and ambitious media coverage

  • Confident in their expertise and able to give clear, frank counsel to stakeholders

  • Excellent storyteller who can drive a consistent narrative with strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.

  • Experience using customer data/insights to inform media strategy and planning

  • Creative and innovative thinker who’s not afraid to try new things and suggest new ideas.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and calmly adapts to change when needed.
