As an Intermediate Lighting Artist at Beamdog, you'll collaborate with the Art Director and team leads to establish the mood and atmosphere of their projects using lighting techniques in UE5. Responsibilities include following artistic direction, proposing lighting ideas, ensuring visual clarity, maintaining lighting quality, fixing bugs, collaborating with other departments, and seeking feedback. You'll work on real-time lighting, atmospherics, and post-processing, utilizing blueprints to streamline workflows. The role requires a minimum of three years of experience in game industry lighting, demonstrated proficiency in UE5 and 3D DCC software, and a solid understanding of real-world lighting principles.

Position Summary:

As an intermediate Lighting Artist, you will collaborate closely with the studio Art Director and department leads, to help set the mood, tone and atmosphere of our current and up and coming projects through lighting. You will be relied upon to ensure alignment with project vision and adherence to production deadlines, both from an artistic and technical perspective.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow and interpret artistic direction from the Art Director to establish visual standards and assist in authoring lighting style guides.
  • Able to propose atmosphere and lighting ideas to best suit the title's mood and feeling.
  • Author lighting in a way that ensures and preserves the legibility of work from the design and environmental art teams.
  • Set and maintain lighting quality from both an artistic and technical standpoint.
  • Fix and or optimize lighting set ups as bugs or other issues arise.
  • Maintain interdepartmental collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance the player experience.
  • Proactively seek feedback and critique from the Art Director, Enviro lead and other stakeholders as required.
  • Other responsibilities as needed


Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years experience in games industry lighting techniques, from real-time to pre-rendered.
  • Participated in the production and shipping of at least one AAA game in a lighting artist role.
  • In depth knowledge of UE5 and 3D DCC, as relates to real-time lighting principals (dynamic lighting, sub-surface scattering, HDR, SSAO, SSGI, physically based rendering), atmospherics, and post-processing
  • Make use of UE5 blueprints to streamline lighting processes.
  • A solid and demonstrable understanding of real world lighting, including the use of color, light source, brightness, composition, and shadow.
  • Practical experience using project management software such as Jira, and source save packages such as perforce and so on.
  • Highly motivated, great communication skill, team player with ability to organize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Passion for the games industry.
  • Experience working with a wide array of art styles
  • Experience in building asset viewer maps and establishing standards for content creation that follow PBR standards.

  • A portfolio of your own work showcasing an ability to to set up mood and tone while telling a compelling story across a diverse set of genres.
