Our Layout TDs combine a solid understanding of technology with the workflows and processes used by our artists daily. They have a passion for supporting the creative process and for ensuring our global pipeline is as optimal as possible.
As a Layout TD, you have overall responsibility to support the layout team on the existing pipeline tooling on active shows. You are responsible for day to day support of the layout team fixing issues and/or liaising with the pipeline team to wrangle support tickets. Working closely with the Layout Tech Supe you will work to priorities of the Layout HOD to keep artists working productively and avoid costly downtime within the department.
Key Responsibilities
Report to the Layout HOD
Act as the conduit between the layout team and the pipeline team, striving for the continuous improvement of the workflow and pipeline tooling
Advise Layout Artists on best practices
Adhere to the Pipeline best practice
Partner closely with Layout Supervisors in prioritising fixes and tool improvements
Foster close collaboration with pipeline on development projects.
Collaborate with peer layout and anim tds in supporting shots through the pipeline
Collaborate with the Production to fix priority issues and support tasks in a timely manner
Support production supervisors, artists and production staff in adopting new technology and techniques
Collaborate with the project managers and the training department to provide and integrate user-friendly documentation and tutorials for new tools and workflows
Support artists and production in layout/editorial loop
Must Haves
Proven experience VFX or Feature Animation
Strong understanding of the VFX or Feature Animation production process and the role of the pipeline in delivering high-quality work.
A degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics or another related field or equivalent working experience
Excellent Python and Linux skills
Experience in developing tools/scripts for DCC packages such as Maya, Houdini and Nuke
Experience with renderers such as Renderman, Arnold, Mantra
Experience with source control systems and team management or development
Strong problem solving and organisational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead teams and stakeholders through the development process.
Experience in managing and prioritising tasks to meet project deadlines.
Works well under pressure and critical deadlines
Rigging/animation knowledge preferred
