As an Engineering Manager at Microsoft AI, you'll lead a team building the infrastructure and platform for Copilot. Responsibilities include hands-on coding contributions, project planning, prioritization, feature design, mentoring engineers, advocating for high-quality software development, analyzing telemetry data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. You'll be deeply involved in building world-class AI applications, working with distributed systems at scale, and supporting the next wave of Copilot capabilities. The ideal candidate is passionate, empathetic, and highly effective, with a proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams. This role requires a strong background in cloud services, infrastructure, and web service development.
Must have:
- 8+ years experience in software engineering
- 4+ years managing engineering teams
- 4+ years experience with cloud services and infrastructure
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Proficiency in Python, C#, C++, Rust, or Java
Good to have:
- Experience with LLM training clusters
- Experience with AI platforms, frameworks, and APIs
- Master's degree in Computer Science

We’re on the lookout for a talented and passionate Infrastructure and Platform Engineering Manager to join our team and help build the next wave of capabilities of our personal AI, Copilot. The right candidate takes the initiative and enjoys building world-class consumer experiences and products in a fast-paced environment. The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for building APIs that support our work in finetuning and deploying the core experience of Copilot, while collaborating with our Product Management, Design and AI Research teams.
Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI, is dedicated to advancing Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. The team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research. Come be a part of the team shaping the future personal computing. Responsibilities:
- Care deeply about building world-class AI applications that will delight users.
- Make hands-on contributions to platform code and infrastructure.
- Build and lead a team of software engineers, including driving project planning, prioritization of work, and designing features.
- Support, mentor, and help engineers grow, building an inclusive team environment where everyone can deliver their best work.
- Advocate for and maintain a culture of high-quality software development.
- Analyze telemetry and usage data to inform product decisions and troubleshoot issues.
- Work with diverse opinions and negotiate solutions, balancing customer requirements and business goals.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 8 years technical engineering experience developing building web services with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, C , Rust, Java
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4 years of experience in managing, leading, and inspiring a team of engineers, including hiring, retaining, and managing performance.
- 4 years of experience working on cloud services and infrastructure.
- 4 years of experience running and working with distributed systems and on services at scale.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12 years technical engineering building web services with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, C , Rust, Java
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10 years technical engineering building web services with coding in languages including, but not limited to, Python, C#, C , Rust, Java
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6 years people management experience.
- Experience with LLM training clusters.
- Experience working with AI platforms, frameworks, and APIs.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.
- Passion for learning new technologies and staying up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in mobile development and AI.
- Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
