Job Description

Your future team:

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Architect to join our Defence client’s Major Infrastructure Projects directorate. This division is responsible for delivering significant new and upgraded dock, berth, and building infrastructure projects essential for supporting the ship and submarine sustainment programs.

Your missions:

As a Principal Architect, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that multi-discipline infrastructure system designs culminate in a facility that fully supports our sustainment capabilities. As a Principal Architect, you will be responsible for:

🎯 Delivering the architectural aspects of the facility, ensuring systems are designed with a clear statement of compliance and meet all relevant HSE requirements.

🎯 Managing the architectural elements of the Dock Facility upgrade, ensuring technical performance, and making informed technical responses.

🎯 Providing expert guidance and technical reviews of architectural design packages, ensuring their integration with other design packages.

🎯 Overseeing the production of design documentation, ensuring it meets agreed standards, schedules, and budgets.

🎯 Contributing to the project’s technical planning process by identifying key factors for effective project implementation.

🎯 Managing risks effectively, ensuring that all staff and contractors are aware of the hazards and risks associated with the project.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills to be successful:

💡 A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture is required.

💡 Chartered Architect status, registered with RIBA, is highly desirable.

💡 Extensive experience in managing complex building designs, particularly within heavily regulated environments.

💡 Experience in major civil infrastructure projects in the marine environment.

💡 Previous experience with highly complex buildings in the nuclear sector is desirable but not essential.

💡 Strong technical expertise in architectural design, with the ability to provide subject matter expert advice and guidance.

💡 Demonstrated ability to manage and review design packages by subconsultants, ensuring integration with multi-discipline infrastructure systems.

Additional Information

Umbrella contractor position but staff solutions accepted.

Most work from local Assystem office or home location with occasional visits to Client site in Plymouth.

BPSS required to start but SC needed thereafter.  Must be Sole UK nationals.
