Job Description

The Responsible Content Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding Microsoft's online platforms by analyzing and moderating sensitive digital content. This involves identifying and removing explicit and illegal content, such as hate speech, sexual content, violence, and self-harm material. The role requires adhering to legal and ethical standards, utilizing tools and data analysis to improve moderation processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Responsibilities include content moderation, data analysis, process improvement, project management, stakeholder collaboration, and adherence to privacy and security policies. Exposure to offensive material is inherent to the role.

Overview

As a Responsible Content Specialist, you play a critical role in safeguarding the digital ecosystem and maintaining the integrity of Microsoft’s online products and platforms by analyzing, moderating, or labeling sensitive digital content while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. You will utilize tools and data analysis to suggest improvements to moderation processes, lead quality assurance efforts, and support initiatives that enhance user experience and protect individual privacy. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams, sharing insights and feedback related to guidelines, processes and tooling.

 

 

Job location: Dublin, IE (on-site only, no hybrid option)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Media, Behavioral Psychology, Criminal Justice, Linguistics, Education, Business, Computer Science or related field AND 1+ year(s) relevant experience in work requiring privacy, discretion, and/or exposure to sensitive situations or content (e.g., digital safety, content review, the use and creation of content moderation tools, data annotation, paralegal, social work, law enforcement).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Ireland (Legally authorized = Has citizenship or has been granted a valid visa or work permit).

 

OR

 

High School Diploma (or local equivalent), AND 3+ years relevant experience in work requiring privacy, discretion, and/or exposure to sensitive situations or content (e.g., digital safety, content review, the use and creation of content moderation tools, data annotation, paralegal, social work, law enforcement) OR equivalent experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Proficient in one or more languages in addition to English (e.g. Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, German, Arabic).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Media, Behavioral Psychology, Criminal Justice, Linguistics, Education, Business, Computer Science or related field, AND 2+ years relevant experience in work requiring privacy, discretion, and/or exposure to sensitive situations or content (e.g., digital safety, content review, the use and creation of content moderation tools, data annotation, paralegal, social work, law enforcement)

 

OR High School Diploma (or local equivalent), AND 4+ years relevant experience in work requiring privacy, discretion, and/or exposure to sensitive situations or content (e.g., digital safety, content review, the use and creation of content moderation tools, data annotation, paralegal, social work, law enforcement)

 

OR equivalent experience.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform content moderation tasks to identify and remove explicit and illegal content from our platforms including, but not limited to hate, sexual, violence, self harm, CSEA (Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) & VET (Violent Extremist & Terrorism) content. Analyzes and reviews several types of media such as images, videos, and text-based content based on guidelines and policies while maintaining high fidelity and consistency.
  • Recognize data trends and understand policy implementation. Participate in and drive continuous improvement in processes, guidelines, procedures, policy, and tooling. Familiarizes self with guidelines to identify quality problems, and/or discover insights into the data. Develops advanced understanding of guidelines and identifies gaps and when they should be used.
  • Works with Managers to understand the requirements and specifications of the projects/tasks and creates processes and work instructions based on those requirements and specifications.
  • Identifies internal opportunities to develop new projects and improve current ones. Identifies root problems (e.g., root-cause analysis), define the project strategy, gather requirements, Identify needs, create the project plan and targets, and work across teams to align on the plan.
  • Work with cross-functional (e.g., organizational, product, business) stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Marketing) to design programs/projects from initiation to delivery. Learns to
  • Produce collateral (e.g., proposals, strategy walking deck, internal and external pitch content) to incorporate stakeholder needs and ensure the business objectives are met.
  • Learn how to track the success criteria and performance metrics such as quality, throughput, and SLA Metrics.
  • Cooperates with project leads to define and execute landing and communication plans, such as the target audience(s) and communication strategy.
  • Learns how to define and track appropriate success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., quality, throughput, and Service Level Agreement [SLA] Metrics). Leverages data and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs] and Key Performance Indicators [KPIs]) to demonstrate the value of the projects and show business impact with guidance from team members.
  • Understands and follows ethics and privacy policies when collecting and preparing guidelines or contributing to development of the guidelines. Adheres to Microsoft's privacy policy related to utilizing and working with data.  Identifies data integrity problems.
  • Maintains high standard of data protection and security, follows standardized processes to prevent any information leakage or breach that could compromise the quality and reliability of products and services and minimizes exposure to risk.
  • Demonstrates personal ownership through following Security & Privacy guidelines, immediately reporting incidents using the appropriate channels, and completes all security training.
  • Applies policies and procedures under oversight from managers and peers to meet business needs. May interpret the information to protect Microsoft and customers and move the business forward. Discovers non-conformance and escalates to management.

 

Considerations:

Responsible Content Specialist will come across offensive and mature material and will be required to work with this type of content to help train our AI models for the protection of Microsoft’s customers.

 

On-call, afterhours, flexible shifts and weekend shifts will be required.
