As a Senior Project Manager Packaging at tonies®, you'll lead the development and execution of innovative packaging solutions from concept to completion. Responsibilities include overseeing project lifecycles, managing timelines and budgets, collaborating with cross-functional teams (Product Management, Marketing, Supply Chain), driving sustainability initiatives, and managing vendors. You'll ensure packaging meets product requirements, brand standards, and regulatory compliance (ASTM, EN-71, etc.). The role requires strong project management skills, packaging expertise within the toy or consumer goods industry, and experience with overseas manufacturers. A deep understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and design principles is crucial.

As a Senior Project Manager Packaging, you are a driving force behind the development and execution of innovative packaging solutions that leave a lasting impact. By identifying and resolving bottlenecks, you ensure projects not only stay on track but also meet our highest quality standards, aligning with brand objectives and regulatory requirements. Collaborating with cross-functional teams—such as Product Management, Marketing, and Supply Chain—you shape packaging strategies that seamlessly integrate business goals with market needs.
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Lead Packaging Projects: Oversee the entire lifecycle of packaging projects, from concept to completion, ensuring that designs are innovative, functional, and cost-effective.
  • Project Planning & Timeline Management: Develop, manage, and structure projects with their timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are timely and within budget.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, marketing, and operations to ensure packaging meets product requirements, brand standards, and consumer expectations.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Lead the effort to innovate sustainable packaging solutions, working to reduce environmental impact while maintaining cost-effectiveness and appeal.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturers, overseeing prototyping, production runs, and quality assurance to ensure that packaging materials and processes align with sustainability and quality goals.
What we are looking for:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Project Management, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in project management, packaging development, or a related role within the consumer products or toy industry
  • Deep understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and design principles, particularly within the toy or consumer goods industry
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards (ASTM, EN-71, etc.)
  • Experience working with overseas manufacturers and vendors
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, often with a high degree of autonomy
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in sustainability initiatives and implementing eco-friendly packaging solutions
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana, or similar tools)
  • Native German skills, as well as fluency in English
  • Willingness to work on-site at our Düsseldorf office two days/week and to visit our Schwäbisch Gmünd office on a monthly basis
