Job Description

Keen Software House seeks a Senior Render Programmer to develop state-of-the-art rendering solutions for their in-house game engine, VRAGE3, and games like Space Engineers 2. Responsibilities include optimizing rendering, implementing new features and techniques, and mentoring junior team members. The role involves close collaboration with art and design teams to achieve the artistic vision. While based in Prague, the position offers remote work flexibility from anywhere. The ideal candidate is a skilled programmer with extensive experience in rendering techniques, DirectX 12, Deferred rendering, PBR rendering, and HLSL shaders.
Must have:
  • 5+ years experience
  • Proficient in C# and Windows development
  • Expert in DirectX 12, Deferred/PBR rendering, HLSL shaders
  • Game engine optimization
  • Developing render for Space Engineers 2 and/or VRAGE3
Good to have:
  • University degree in computer graphics
  • Experience with own render engine
  • C++ knowledge
  • Advanced math and physics knowledge
  • Experience in designing and maintaining desktop applications

We are looking for top talent

We are searching for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Render Programmer. You could be developing state-of-the-art rendering solutions for our in-house game engine VRAGE3 and games such as Space Engineers 2 You’ll be working as part of the Rendering team, working closely with the Art and Design teams to help them achieve the artistic vision for our games.

This position is based in Prague, Czech Republic, where our company's headquarters is located. However, you can work remotely with us from anywhere.

Requirements:

  • Skilled and experienced programmer (5+ years)
  • Proficient with Windows development, C#
  • Excellent knowledge of rendering techniques, DirectX 12, Deferred rendering, PBR rendering, Shaders (HLSL)
  • Optimizing game engines
  • Intermediate English
  • Responsible, well organized, good time management
  • Friendly, curious, creative
  • Don´t be a C-player

Considered a plus:

  • University degree with a focus on computer graphics
  • Experience developing your own render engine
  • Experience in designing and maintaining desktop applications
  • Experience with design patterns, unit testing, UI design
  • Knowledge of C++
  • Advanced math and physics knowledge
  • Interest in science and space research
  • Avid gamer

Responsibilities:

  • Developing render for Space Engineers 2 and/or VRAGE3 – optimizing, implementing new features, rendering techniques, etc.
  • Mentoring less experienced team members

About The Company

Keen Software House is an independent game development studio aiming to create games that are based on real science, real facts, real physics and real emotions. The company is mostly known for its popular titles, Space Engineers (released in October 2013 and sold 4 million copies) and Medieval Engineers (a sandbox game about engineering, construction and the maintenance of architectural works and mechanical equipment using medieval technology). The first titles that the studio developed are Miner Wars 2081 and Miner Wars Arena. In addition to their ongoing development of Space Engineers the studio develops its own in-house game engine, VRAGE, currently in the second version and its core feature is volumetricity of the environment. Space Engineers and Medieval Engineers are the first titles fully utilizing VRAGE 2.0.

Keen Software House has two areas of interest:
- independent game development: Space Engineers, Medieval Engineers, VRAGE engine

We want to create games that are based on real science, real facts, real physics and real emotions. No magic & fantasy allowed.

If we step into the sci-fi area - as we did with Space Engineers and Miner Wars 2081 - we approach it from the hard-sci-fi angle. Every technology and every idea must be explainable using modern-era knowledge with very little extrapolation required.

In Medieval Engineers we hold on to historical accuracy as much as possible while not sacrificing fun, accessibility and intuitiveness.

We want to use our games to promote science and to encourage creativity. We want to revive the interest in space exploration, physics, history and all STEM fields. We want players to learn new stuff while playing our games.
