Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer in Local Search Quality at Google, you'll improve the performance of Place Search retrieval and ranking, focusing on latency and capacity improvements. This includes identifying areas for optimization, experimenting with solutions, and launching enhancements with minimal quality impact. You'll also develop a new low-latency Place search, collaborating with clients to understand and meet their needs. The role requires strong C++ programming skills, experience with data structures/algorithms, software testing and launch, and software design and architecture. Experience with object-oriented programming, templates, and the STL is essential. You'll be working on a project critical to Google's needs, with opportunities to switch teams and projects.
Must have:
  • 5+ years C++ software development experience

  • Improve Place Search performance (latency, capacity)
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS or related field
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Machine Learning (ML) experience with LLMs
  • Experience developing accessible technologies

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience developing software applications using the C++ programming language, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, templates, and the Standard Template Library (STL).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience in a Machine Learning (ML) using Large Language Models.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
