Ocean Global Stowage Planning is an integral function in the Ocean Container Logistic division of Maersk. Considered the final piece among the various cogs that come together to provide a seamless end-to-end experience for our customers, stowage team designs the plans to maximize the economy of shipping and safety on board.
As a part of this dynamic ecosystem, you will play a direct role in developing, enhancing, and executing the processes necessary to provide the best service to our customers. Designs the position of boxes on the ship and produces a layout that is seaworthy which means safe to sail, which include dangerous goods are segregated safely, bays are set-up to allow maximum number of cranes to work on it, weight is evenly distributed, stability and stresses and safety criteria are met.
Upholding high standards of stowage planning to ensure safe and maximum vessel utilisation with minimum operational costs
Follow through the entire stowage process with stakeholders at any time of the day where the ships are
Evaluating and determining the suitability of vessels deployed in the service based on trade requirements and vessel characteristics
Constantly reviewing and updating SOPs to ensure optimal performance for the team and all stakeholders involved
Working closely with the various internal and external stakeholders (terminals, regional operations, ship commands, nautical, network, deployment etc) to ensure smooth operations
Identify all potential issues which may affect operations, highlighting and following up with the necessary actions to prevent/mitigate any impact from contingencies
Candidates who fulfill any of the below criteria will have an advantage:
Stowage planning experience
Terminal planning experience
Seafaring experience
Naval Architect
Naval Engineer
Knowledge of various software and ability to adapt quickly to new software.
Fresh graduates of any discipline are also welcome to apply. This position requires a 24/7 on-call basis on weekends/public holidays.
Above all, candidates need to have a strong sense of self-drive, urgency, and responsibility. One that is strong in time management, agile, and thrives in a dynamic environment, where flexible work hours will be required to accommodate vessel schedules and berthing windows. Candidates must be good communicators and strong team players, as they will have the opportunity to be in the entire flow of operations, and coordinate with various stakeholders across various cultures and backgrounds daily.
Adaptability and receptiveness to new technology and operating systems are vital advantages. Candidates will be required to master several different programs and software. After undergoing technical and on-the-job training, successful candidates will be required to successfully navigate through the Basic Theory and the Basic Stowage Proficiency Assessment.
