Job Description

This Data Analyst role within Google's Search Trust & Safety team focuses on protecting users from abuse, inappropriate content, and fraud. Responsibilities include investigating and resolving quality issues, troubleshooting product vulnerabilities, analyzing abuse trends, and developing data-driven solutions. The role requires strong analytical skills, collaboration with cross-functional teams (Product, Policy, Legal, Engineering), and the ability to handle sensitive content. The analyst will conduct complex data analyses, identify new signals to improve search quality, and drive the implementation of these improvements. This position demands a proactive approach to enhancing user safety and maintaining the integrity of Google Search.
Must have:

  • 4+ years experience in data analytics or related fields
  • SQL, dashboard building, data transformation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication

  • Master's degree or PhD
  • Experience with large datasets and tools like MapReduce, Hadoop

  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in data analytics, Trust & Safety, policy, cybersecurity, or related fields.
  • Experience in SQL, building dashboards, data collection/transformation, visualization/dashboards, or in a scripting/programming language (e.g. Python).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets using up-to-date tools (e.g. SQL, MapReduce, Hadoop).
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) and the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.
  • Strong mentorship and leadership skills, with ability to work independently, complete projects from beginning to end and in a timely manner, and navigate and influence cross-team stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. The Search team within Trust & Safety is recruiting enthusiastic, web-savvy individuals to work with cutting-edge technologies in order to keep users safe and improve the quality of Google's Search results. As part of this team, you will develop and manage cross-functional relationships with Engineering, Product, Legal, and Operations teams in a multifaceted effort to improve our processes for identifying and resolving policy and quality issues on Search. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic leader responsible for the end to end execution of complex projects with a group of stakeholders. You will be responsible to analyze market trends, set forward-looking strategy, and implement scaled solutions to solve user safety and quality issues, to ensure a high-quality user experience across Search products.

A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000-$157,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Initiate and lead projects to protect Google Search users from abuse, inappropriate content and fraud through investigation, prevention, and removal of quality issues.
  • Troubleshoot issues and product vulnerabilities to implement large-scale quality improvements. Analyze and identify new abuse trends and develop insights and recommendations to enable effective and systematic solutions.
  • Conduct complex and actionable data analyses as well as identify new signals to improve search quality. Drive the utilization of these new signals to completion. 
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Product, Policy, Legal, Engineering teams and other teams within Trust and Safety to execute solutions.
  • This role will be exposed to graphic, controversial, and/or upsetting content.
