Skydance Animation is seeking a Graphics Artist to join the Art department on an upcoming 3D animated feature film. This artist will be responsible for the ideation, design, and packeting of the lettering, textures, graphics, and patterns that will appear on various props and environments in the feature, such as signage, awnings, picture frames, etc. This role will report to the Production Designer.

Responsibilities

    • Brainstorm inventive ideas to add depth, humor, emotion and resonance to visual concepts.
    • Rework material from feedback and notes while maintaining a fresh perspective.
    • Work as part of a team to contribute to the vision for the movie.
    • Work closely with Production Designer and Art Director to create art for film concepts, with a specific focus on graphics, typeface, and textural patterns.
    • Work closely with other artists across the Art, Story, Modeling, Texturing, and other departments.
    • Generate work in the form of sketches, color keys, rough designs, and thumbnails, and textural references.
    • Perform research that will inform the design of the work.
    • Create presentation materials as needed.
    • Meet scheduling deadlines.
    • Proactively communicate production issues/questions/concerns.

Requirements

    • Degree in Fine Arts or related field and/or 3+ years design experience on commercial film/show.
    • Sense of humor and resilience in the face of shifting priorities and demands.
    • Sound knowledge of story structure, visual development, and composition.
    • A comprehensive understanding of both visual storytelling and how an art department functions.
    • Advanced knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
    • Ability to create appeal and humor through drawing.
    • Ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, present work, be a team-player.
    • Superior ability to represent ideas visually and to suggest alternate concepts.
    • Skill at expressing verbal descriptions in an artistic way.
    • Strong understanding of typefaces, graphic design, and textural painting to be able to draft packeting / assembly sheets, hand off to 3D artists, etc.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision both independently, or collaborating within a group.
    • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
The annual salary range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $110,600 – $208,000.  The salary offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors.  The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
