Job Description

The Loungefly Product Developer at Funko is responsible for creating and managing product tech packs, ensuring on-time delivery and cost targets. This includes collaborating with design and production teams, reviewing samples, communicating with factories and buyers, and managing product information. The role involves understanding product costing, production limitations, and material specifications. Additional responsibilities include collaborating on new product ideas, coaching junior developers, creating line sheets, and ensuring accurate packaging information. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the product development lifecycle, proficiency in design software, and excellent communication skills.
Must have:
  • Degree in Fashion Design or Product Development
  • 4-5 years experience in product development
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
  • Experience with overseas factories
  • Strong communication and organization skills

Funko is a purveyor of pop culture, making and selling license-focused collectibles. We currently hold hundreds of licenses for franchises ranging from Disney to Harry Potter, giving us the rights to create tens of thousands of characters—one of the largest portfolios in the pop culture and collectibles industry. We take your favorite characters and turn them into everything from collectible figures to fashion. That’s where you come in! Our fashion and accessories brand, Loungefly, is looking for a Product Developer.

Your Superpowers in Action

  • Create and provide initial product tech packs to the factory’s on time to include all relevant product instructions, material specifications, BOM, EOQ, and required timeline to meet delivery schedules and updates as needed
  • Maintains on average 30 skus at various stages per month.
  • Understands product costing and what elements/construction can change costing.
  • Ensure product specced meets costing targets and contribution margins.
  • Works closely with the PDM and Design team on materials/techniques that are used in each spec.
  • Understands production limitations across all product categories.
  • Reviews and comments on 3D drawings from the factory before sampling in order to make sure samples are as close to initial design as possible.
  • Communicates directly with the factory on any questions regarding the technical specs they create.
  • Communicate with sales to make sure specs/samples meet buyer requirements.
  • Checks physical samples for all items they spec and provides feedback or comments in order to review with the Product Development Manager and Design.
  • Reviews all samples with the Product Development manager/Design and suggestion next steps for the item.
  • Provides final detailed sample comments to the factory based on meeting with the Product Development Manager/Design.
  • Update techpacks as needed based on sample feedback and buyer/licensor changes.
  • Requests additional samples/panels from the factory based on sample comments.
  • Reviews and gives feedback to sales and factory on all TOP samples they worked on.
  • Checks packaging on all TOP's to make sure it is correct.
  • Ensure product information is accurately and properly entered into the Product Development tracking system including the management of data in the product development system as development progresses
  • Maintain and organize samples in sample room as needed.
  • Collaborate with Art, Design, PD, and Sales on new product idea's and techniques.
  • Works with the PDM and helps source new techniques and silhouettes from the teams directly with the factory.
  • Unpack sample boxes and distribute samples to the team as needed
  • Help Coach and support Assistant Product Developer(s) in day to day tasks.
  • Creates line sheets and licensor submission sheets.
  • Works with PD and Packaging Designer to provides the PM's with all legal and packaging info for all items.
  • Generates styles numbers and descriptions for all styles submitted.

 

Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry

  • Degree in Fashion Design or Product Development.
  • 4- 5 Years’ experience in product development or technical design.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator; Abode Photoshop experience is a plus.
  • Has experience working and handling projects with overseas and domestic factories.
  • Understanding and experience with the product creation lifecycle in consumer goods industry.
  • Experience with costing, bill of materials (BOM) creation, spec sheet (tech pack) creation, design translation, product and material experience
  • Must be highly organized and able to multi-task in a very fast paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to communicate within all levels of the organization (including C-Level) as well as with external partners, vendors and licensors
  • Strong attention to detail and organization to keep up with the product changes through the development and production process.
  • Should be comfortable working independently as well as with a team.
  • Ability to help coach and train Assistant Product Developers.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds without physical limitations or restrictions.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve problems quickly and accurately
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office product suite
  • Experience with product tracking tools and software
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with cross functioning teams.
  • Can handle multi projects at once with the same degree of priority.

Compensation & Benefits
Funko offers a competitive compensation package with full benefits and a 401(K) plan with matching contributions from the company.  The starting base salary range for this position in the selected city is $73,600 - $92,000 annually. ​Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work. This role is eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.

Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

This position is based in Burbank, California and does require a 3 day commitment to being in office.
