ML Research Operations Lead

At Scale AI, our mission is to strengthen human sovereignty. With our recent Series F round, we’re accelerating the abundance of frontier data to pave the road to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and building upon our prior model evaluation work with enterprise customers and governments, to deepen our capabilities and offerings for both public and private evaluations.

Scale AI is looking for a driven and highly capable ML Research Operations Lead to serve as the connective tissue between our operations, engineering, frontier data, and SEAL (safety, evaluations, and alignment) teams. In this individual contributor role, you’ll take the lead in streamlining machine learning workflows, managing data production pipelines, and ensuring efficient handoffs between ops, engineering and research. Beyond facilitating process excellence, you’ll have the opportunity to co-author research papers and directly contribute to groundbreaking advancements in AI capabilities, safety, and security. You will:

• Drive the planning, execution, and successful completion of machine learning ops research projects, experiments and hybrid data pipelines with members of the Scale research team and external research labs.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to streamline operations and accelerate research timelines.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between research scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Act as a liaison to ensure alignment of research objectives with organizational goals.
• Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports, presentations, and updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with EPD teams to develop custom solutions tailored to the ML projects needs.

Ideally, you’d have:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
• 1-5 years of experience in machine learning project management or research operations roles.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and managing ML research projects from inception to completion.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary research teams.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, data processing, and AI model development.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
