Avalanche Studios Group seeks a Senior Sound Designer to join their audio team for theHunter: Call of the Wild. Responsibilities include collaborating with designers and programmers to implement and optimize sound assets using FMOD and proprietary tools; designing, implementing, and maintaining complex audio systems (dynamic mixing, environmental effects, spatial audio); working with feature teams to define technical requirements; playtesting and iterating on audio implementations; and documenting best practices. The ideal candidate possesses solid gaming industry experience, proficiency in audio middleware and DAWs, and excellent communication skills. A strong understanding of sound principles and creative/technical problem-solving abilities are crucial.

At Avalanche Studios Group, we are looking for a Senior Sound Designer to join our audio team to work on the world's biggest and best hunting game; theHunter: Call of the Wild.

As a Sound Designer you will be part of a tight and highly motivated team that strives to create the best sound experiences possible in games. theHunter is a truly immersive experience for players who enjoy an authentic depiction of wilderness and we see sound as a crucial part of the whole experience. 

Challenges include working with proprietary tools including the Apex game engine and our own modular audio framework, and utilizing these tools along with the audio engine to design and implement sounds into our game.

Our ideal team member will have a healthy balance of creative and technical problem solving abilities, as both will be needed for the role. Half of a game’s audio quality is determined by implementation, and as a Sound Designer you’ll be responsible for both creating and implementing your own sounds.


What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with Sound Designers and Audio Programmers to implement and optimize sound assets within FMOD and our proprietary game engine.
  • Design, implement and maintain complex audio systems, such as dynamic mixing, environmental effects, and spatial audio, to enhance player immersion
  • Work closely with feature teams to define technical requirements and constraints for audio implementation, ensuring alignment with game design goals.
  • Playtest and iterate on audio implementations to achieve the desired emotional impact and gameplay feedback.
  • Document and communicate best practices and technical guidelines for sound.

Who you are

  • Solid experience as a sound designer or audio engineer in the gaming industry, with a strong understanding of sound principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in audio middleware such as FMOD, as well as digital audio workstations (DAWs) and audio editing software (Reaper is a plus).
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate within cross-discipline teams.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English and with great communication and collaboration skills.
