Crazy Labs seeks a Senior Technical Artist to join their Unity game development team. Responsibilities include asset optimization and integration, shader development and visual effects creation, animation support, tool and pipeline development, and collaboration with other teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of artistic principles and technical constraints in game development, proficiency in shader development and optimization, and experience with performance profiling and mobile optimization. The role involves working on one or more projects simultaneously to deliver high-quality, visually appealing games.
Must have:
  • 3+ years as Technical Artist in Unity mobile game dev
  • Proficiency in shader development & optimization
  • Experience in performance profiling and mobile optimization
  • Experience with Maya, Blender
  • Solid understanding of shaders, materials, visual effects
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with mobile graphics APIs
  • Shipped mobile game titles showcasing technical art
  • Experience with continuous integration/deployment
  • Knowledge of advanced rendering techniques (PBR)

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Technical Artist to join our growing larger mobile game development team and contribute to the development of high-quality UNITY games. As a Sr. Technical Artist, you will bridge the gap between art and programming teams, ensuring seamless integration of assets, optimizing workflows, and contributing to the visual fidelity of the game. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of both artistic principles and technical constraints in a game development environment. You’ll work concentrating on one or occasionally more projects at a time to create the most fun awesome-looking games!

Responsibilities:

Asset Optimization & Integration:

  • Work with the art and development teams to ensure the smooth integration of 3D models, textures, and animations into the game engine.
  • Optimize game assets for performance without compromising visual quality.
  • Create and maintain technical art documentation for asset pipelines and workflows. E.g. “Technical Art Bible”

Shader Development & Visual Effects:

  • Develop and implement shaders to create visually appealing effects for unit characters and environments.
  • Collaborate with the artists to bring high-quality visual effects to life within the game engine.

 Animation Support:

  • Assist in the creation of rigs and skeletons and ensure proper integration of animations into the game.
  • Troubleshoot and solve any technical issues related to animation pipelines.

 Tool & Pipeline Development:

  • Design and create tools or scripts to improve the efficiency of the art pipeline and reduce manual work for artists.
  • Provide support for artists in using game engine tools and asset management systems.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with game designers, programmers, and other artists to ensure that assets meet technical requirements.
  • Provide feedback on visual quality and performance to ensure the game’s aesthetic and technical goals are met.
  • Support the developers (e.g. code review and examples) of aspects related to art aspects implementations 

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor and improve the performance of game assets, especially for unit-based mechanics, to ensure smooth gameplay across various platforms.
  • Work with the engineering team to identify performance bottlenecks and provide solutions.

Bug Fixing & Troubleshooting:

  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to art assets and game systems.
  •  Provide timely fixes and solutions to prevent delays in the game development cycle.

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a Technical Artist in mobile game development within Unity - MUST
  • Proficiency in shader development and optimization.
  • Strong experience in performance profiling and mobile optimization.
  • Experience in industry-standard software such as Maya, Blender.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Artist, particularly within unit-based games or real-time applications.
  • Strong experience with Unity3D
  • Solid understanding of shaders, materials, and visual effects.
  • Strong understanding of performance optimization techniques in real-time 3D environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Love and passion for gaming

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with mobile graphics APIs (OpenGL ES, Vulkan, Metal).
  • Shipped mobile game titles showcasing technical art and optimization work.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced rendering techniques such as PBR (Physically-Based Rendering)
