Sprung Studios is seeking a Senior UI Engineer in Vancouver who is passionate about games, mentoring UI programming staff, and delivering excellent UI experiences. The role involves evaluating and optimizing UI engineering, collaborating with production and UI leads on priorities, troubleshooting with clients and engineers, conducting research, ensuring consistent UI engineering quality, attending meetings, modifying UI code reviews, and creatively supporting and mentoring other UI engineers. Responsibilities include assisting with creative problem-solving, mentoring UI engineers on new code and workflows, identifying and providing solutions for bad habits, creating downtime tasks, remaining positive, raising blockers, answering questions, and ensuring client feedback is incorporated into iterations. The engineer will also work with project teams to ask correct questions at kick-offs, ensure effective communication between UI engineers and clients, review UI engineer reports, maintain the UI engineering process, and deliver code to clients on time while meeting expectations.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience as a UI Engineer in AAA or mobile game development
  • Strong C++/C# design and coding experience
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine and its UI Tools
  • Experience creating complete UI systems
  • Experience bringing UI to life through motion/transition design
  • Comfortable working with global teams across different timezones
  • Proven experience in a feature-led/pure agile environment
  • Exposure to UI system creation on multiple platforms
Good to have:
  • Understanding of Network Game Client/Server architecture
  • Experience designing user interfaces professionally or independently
  • Familiarity with rendering techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience

Sprung Studios is looking for an experienced Senior UI Engineer to join our team in Vancouver! We are interested in hearing from individuals who are passionate about games, mentoring employees on UI programming, and delivering high-quality UI experiences.

What You’ll Do:

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and Optimize anything related to UI Engineering
  • Working with Production and UI heads to set priorities
  • Troubleshooting with client/Sprung Engineers, tech artists.
  • Producing tangible research and exploration work for each project
  • Consistent quality in all UI Engineer work deliveries
  • Attending project meetings and standups
  • Modify UI Code reviews
  • Creatively supporting and mentoring the other members of the UI Engineering team:
  • Assist with creative problem solving
  • Mentor the UI Engineers in learning new codes
  • Help the UI Engineers to improve their workflow/speed-of-working
  • Identify bad habits and provide alternative solutions
  • Create downtime tasks and challenges
  • Remain positive and approachable
  • Raise major blockers with heads
  • Expect that a portion of every day will be spent answering questions
  • Ensuring that feedback from clients is effectively logged and that iterations address the feedback we have received
  • Working with other members of the project team, you are responsible for:
  • When kick-off meetings happen, the correct questions are asked.
  • Making sure that communication between the UI Engineers and our clients is effective (that feedback is being gathered, discussed and logged)
  • Reading and reviewing reports from UI Engineers
  • Ensuring that the UI Engineering process is correctly followed (and developed over time to fit the needs of the projects)
  • Actual delivery of Code to the client
  • Completing the project on-time and that client's expectations are met

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience with AAA or mobile game development as a UI Engineer

We are working with a hybrid model. Mondays and Fridays are an option to work from home, with everyone in the Studio on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
