Job Description

The Specialist, Production Technology & Operations at Netflix will be responsible for training, onboarding, and supporting internal and external teams on media delivery workflows and tools. This includes managing media assets, ensuring technical quality, and developing training resources. The role also involves collaborating with various teams, strategizing solutions to production challenges, leveraging data analysis, and driving operational efficiency improvements. Deep knowledge of digital audio/video workflows, file formats (IMF, Dolby Vision, Atmos), and QC processes is crucial. Experience with cloud-based workflows and relevant software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer) is essential.

The Role

At Netflix, the Production Technology and Operations team is essential to providing our members with a great experience every time they play our content. Our role is to raise operational standards for our productions, elevate the technical quality of our content, and ensure successful media delivery to Netflix, by leveraging production technologies and best practices that empower creative vision, in addition to maximizing productivity across the title lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for problem solving, take a leadership role in solution discovery, and communicate with a broad variety of stakeholders. They will be responsible for aligning production needs with business goals, leveraging their deep knowledge of production and post-production workflows to generate positive outcomes for both internal and external partners. This person thrives in ambiguous situations, and is able to analyze qualitative and quantitative data to drive strategic objectives. Additionally, a bias towards action and empathy for others from different backgrounds, levels of experience, and technical acumen will serve a candidate well in this role.

As part of the Production Technology & Operations team, you will:

Train, Onboard, and Support:

  • Be a subject matter expert on workflows and tools that involve media delivery to Netflix.  This includes but is not limited to media management of Original Camera Footage, IMF authoring, audio deliverables, and post production archival media assets.

  • Manage onboarding and training for internal applications and workflows, including access management, internal and external delivery solutions, and technical quality control (QC) processes. 

  • Educate internal and external teams on Netflix technical specifications, workflows, and best practices. 

  • Develop and maintain both internal and public-facing documentation, as well as training resources, so that partners can self-serve and troubleshoot.

Advise, Strategize, and Collaborate:

  • Build trusting relationships with external teams - including but not limited to Post Production Supervisors, Post Production vendor staff and talent, Editorial teams, and others involved in the creation, preparation, and delivery of media to Netflix.

  • Build a collaborative and robust working relationship with Netflix internal teams who oversee production, post, finishing, localization, and launch, as well as Product and Engineering partners.

  • Embrace and operationalize emerging technology and workflows, seeking to connect available solutions with on the ground production challenges. This includes, but is not limited to, AI and ML driven solutions and cloud-based production workflows.

  • Identify opportunities and challenges in media delivery, QC, and production operations work streams, whether it’s specific to a single show or has broader regional application.

  • Create detailed strategies to address these challenges and opportunities, driving a clear point of view with clearly defined targets.

  • Use subject matter expertise and “on the ground” experience to help inform and provide feedback on product/engineering efforts (including tool development and 3rd party integrations/solutions).  

  • Create and analyze performance data for root-cause and trend analysis, in order to drive issue prevention strategy and overall vendor improvement. 

  • Be an escalation point for troubleshooting technical and operational issues related to media asset creation/preparation, delivery, and evaluation. 

  • Proactively seek to Innovate and improve processes, tools, as well as associated documentation and resources, in order to drive operational efficiency.

  • A data-driven mindset, with experience in analyzing and leveraging quantitative plus qualitative data to inform strategy, innovation efforts, efficiency optimizations, and root-cause problem solving. This includes familiarity with relevant tools like Tableau and Airtable.  

  • Prior experience training and educating people across all levels of experience and technical expertise around complex technology, workflows, and concepts. 

  • Understanding of common production lifecycle challenges and tools used to tackle them, which may include available AI/ML solutions.

  • Experience in utilizing and managing cloud-based production workflows and the ability to onboard and support partners for successful integration into these workflows.

  • Extensive experience with the fundamentals of content creation (scripted, unscripted, and/or animation, features and/or episodic), including, but not limited to post production finishing and delivery, file-based workflows, digital distribution, in a technical workflow and/or project management role. 

  • Deep knowledge of digital audio and video workflows and file formats, including but not limited to IMF, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Quality Control (QC), with experience in incident management of these workflows and formats (issue detection, investigation/diagnosis, resolution, escalation, and trend identification/analysis).

  • Familiarity with production, post, and data management software and their use cases and fit within the production and post production pipeline.  Some examples are Pomfort Silverstack, YoYotta, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, FilmLight BaseLight, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Colorfront Transkoder, Avid Pro Tools, etc.

  • Familiarity with audio, video, and data communications protocols as defined by industry technical standards organizations such as the IETF, SMPTE, ITU, and/or AES.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $50,000 - 250,000.
