We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, networking, storage systems and virtualisation, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. About the role:
- Design, deploy, and maintain IT systems, including but not limited to servers, networking equipment, and virtualization platforms.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
- Manage and administer Windows and Linux server environments, including configuration, patch management, and security hardening.
- Configure and maintain network devices, such as routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls, to support business requirements.
- Implement and support virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, to optimise resource utilisation and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and support business-critical applications, services and security controls.
- Perform security reviews of new technologies, applications, and systems to identify security risks and provide recommendations for mitigating controls.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
- Participate in capacity planning and forecasting activities to support the long-term IT requirements of the organisation.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in IT infrastructure, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior members of the IT team, sharing knowledge and best practices in systems engineering.
- Be available to provide support outside of traditional working hours, including nights and weekends as reasonably required.
About you:
- 5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering with a focus on storage technologies.
- Strong proficiency and experience in Windows and Linux server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services.
- Strong proficiency and experience of networking and security concepts, technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, endpoint protection and encryption technologies.
- Strong proficiency and experience of storage concepts and protocols, such as SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, such as Proxmox, VMware vSphere, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, including network security, endpoint security, and security operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a timely manner.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
