Job Description

Ubisoft Bordeaux seeks a Technical Cinematic Designer to join their Realization team. Responsibilities include creating and implementing cinematic system design elements, acting as a technical point of contact for designers and animators, building pipelines for cinematic content, creating and maintaining documentation and tutorials for cinematic tools, supporting the team in delivering high-quality narrative moments, and collaborating with Technical Directors to harmonize pipelines. The ideal candidate possesses experience in technical design or animation within AAA game development, visual scripting or programming (C++/Python), familiarity with 3D engines (Unity, Unreal, CryEngine), excellent communication, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ubisoft Bordeaux

Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of over 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and other unannounced projects. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) and on the Anvil game engine. A R&D unit, La Forge, has also been set up, bringing together engineers and researchers to work on prototypes for game production, particularly in the field of AI.

Job Description

Ubisoft Bordeaux is looking for a Technical Cinematic Designer for our Realization team (Cinematic design and Cinematic Animation) for our next project, not announced yet. 

As a Technical Cinematic Designer, you will create and implement cinematic system design elements into the game. You will act as a point of contact for the Cinematic Designers and animators on technical matters, serve as a bridge between the tech and design teams and provide support when dealing with complex issues whenever necessary.  

RESPONSBILITIES: 

  • Create and define pipelines for the creation of realization content and transitions to/from gameplay 
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation and tutorials about the cinematic tools 
  • Create and implement datas for the designers to use, and monitor them for all matters related to realization topics (dialogues, scripted events, etc.) 
  • Review content submitted by teams and provide feedback where appropriate 
  • Technically support the Realization team to deliver high-quality Narrative moments 
  • Work in collaboration with Technical Directors (Quest, Animation etc) to harmonize pipelines 

Qualifications

  • Experience in technical design or technical animation in video game, ideally for AAA project.  
  • Good visual scripting knowledge or programming in at least one language (C++ and/or Python) 
  • Experience with 3D engines and their limitations (such as Unity, Unreal, CryEngine etc) 
  • Excellent communication and ability to clearly convey ideas to people from other fields of expertise 
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Good understanding of cinematography and how its means of expression work

  • Type of contract : Permanent contract
  • Location: Role based in Bordeaux - France
  • Hybrid Work : We are committed to promoting a flexible working policy, as we value in-person interaction and collaboration. Our hybrid work model includes a minimum of 3 days a week in our Bordeaux office and the remaining 2 days working from home.
