Job Description

The Technical Director leads technical production for live entertainment shows (parades, stage shows, special events) across Worldwide Disney Parks and Resorts. Responsibilities include developing and mentoring crew, coordinating with authorities for legal compliance, managing vendor selections and efforts, supporting show maintenance and design, conducting quality evaluations, and maintaining project files. The role requires collaboration with various teams (designers, directors, producers) and frequent international travel.
Must have:
  • 5+ years experience in Technical Theater or Live Shows
  • Knowledge of show systems (audio, lighting, video, rigging)
  • Facility design, engineering, and construction experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in MS Suite & AutoCAD
Good to have:
  • 6+ years in live show development
  • Business management experience
  • Proficiency in structural, mechanical, electrical engineering

The Technical Director with Disney Live Entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort leads technical production efforts related to the development of live entertainment shows and product offerings, including parades, stage shows, and special events for Worldwide Disney Parks and Resorts locations.

This is a full-time role on-site in Orlando that will report to the Manager - Technical Direction.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, lead, and mentor crew and technical/production planners while promoting company-wide standards and efficiencies
  • Participate in the creative development
  • Coordinating/partnering with local and government authorities responsible for legal code compliance, including safety, engineering, permitting, and ADA
  • Coordinate bid processes and vendor selections with contracts and procurement and manage vendor efforts, including design development, construction
  • Interact with other parties’ fabrication, shipping, installation, and buy-off teams
  • Supports and consults on maintenance, design, and mounts of new shows
  • Provide ongoing Entertainment Show Quality evaluations as part of the implementation and operational planning
  • Maintains project files, tech logs, design documents, bid packages, schedules, and punch lists

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Theater or Live Show Entertainment
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the operation and artistic application of a wide variety of show systems and technology, including audio, special effects, puppets, lighting, show control systems, video, facilities, and rigging
  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the entertainment industry’s innovative technologies
  • Proven experience with facility design, engineering, and construction
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express creative ideas
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, partnering, and strategic planning skills
  • Highly motivated, requiring minimal direction and follow-up
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD)
  • Proven track record to support the creative process by collaborating with other designers, directors, writers, and producers
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travel
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally frequently for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in live show development
  • Proven business management experience
  • Proficient in some or all of the following engineering subject areas: structural, mechanical, electrical, software, safety
  • Proficiency in other languages is a plus

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Technical Theater with a focus on technical design, construction, and production
