Dambuster Studios seeks a passionate Web Programmer to enhance internal tools and support content teams in AAA game creation. Working within the Game Code team, you will design, build, and maintain responsive web interfaces and backends using proprietary technologies. Responsibilities include the full development lifecycle, collaboration across disciplines, gathering user feedback, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented, committed to iterative development, and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills. You'll manage deployment, proactively connect with users, identify improvement opportunities, ensure design consistency across tools, and mentor junior team members. This role requires strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, and various frameworks.
Must have:
  • Expertise in PHP, JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS
  • Proficient with frontend frameworks (Vue.js, etc.)
  • Knowledge of backend frameworks (Node.js)
  • Experience with databases (MongoDB, MySQL, etc.)
  • Strong web design and UX skills
Good to have:
  • Experience in game development studios

Web Programmer

Dambuster Studios - creators of the number one BAFTA-nominated smash hit Dead Island 2 -  has an exciting opportunity for a Web Programmer to join our highly talented Game Code team.

 

Role overview 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced web developer to enhance our internal tools and support our content teams in creating a AAA game. As part of the Game Code team, you'll work closely with proprietary technologies and experts to design, build, and maintain responsive and reactive web interfaces and backends. You will be involved in the full development cycle, from planning and prototyping to production and testing. The role requires strong collaboration across disciplines, gathering user feedback to drive continuous improvements. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and committed to iterative development and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain web applications/services which integrate into the game and content pipelines to support the whole studio's efforts in creating future titles
  • Manage the deployment and infrastructure requirements of these systems
  • Proactively connect with users across the studio to help evangelise these systems and gather feedback on further improvements and bug fixes
  • Identify new opportunities where web tools could improve team workflows and communication by understanding the needs of the team   
  • Apply a level of functionally and visual consistency across all web tools
  • Always strive to improve the stability, scalability, usability and architecture of the applications and services.
  • Mentor junior team members when required and always set a good example to others.
  • Report to: Lead Game Code Programmer

 

Requirements

  • Expertise in PHP, JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, JQuery, & Laravel.
  • Proficient with frontend frameworks like Vue.js, Angular.js, React, or Ember.
  • Knowledge of backend frameworks such as Node.js.
  • Experience with databases like MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, and frameworks like Parse.
  • Skilled in developing complex web apps, including Single Page Applications.
  • Familiarity with source control systems like Perforce and GIT.
  • Strong web design and user experience skills.
  • Ability to analyse design requirements and translate them into code tasks.
  • Proficient in optimizing code for performance and responsiveness.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving skills, and collaborative team spirit.

 

Pluses:

  • Previous experience working within a game development studio.
  • Experience using containerisation solutions such as Docker.
  • Experience developing with cloud computing services such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
  • Experience of working with and managing large data sets.
  • Experience of Linux administration and command line tools.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • A degree in a science or relevant subject.
  • A genuine interest in playing games and being part of the game development process.

About The Company

Dambuster Studios is based in Nottingham (United Kingdom) and is a AAA game developer with a successful heritage going back over 20 years.

In our original incarnation as Free Radical Design, we developed the TimeSplitters series, Second Sight and Haze. As Crytek UK, we worked on the Crysis series, Warface and Ryse: Son of Rome. In 2014, we were acquired by world renowned publisher Deep Silver and became Deep Silver Dambuster Studios. In 2016 we released Homefront: The Revolution and two subsequent story expansions.

On April 21st, 2023 we released the long-awaited pulpy zombie-slaying adventure, Dead Island 2, which has since gone on to sell over two million copies worldwide.

Through all of our different identities, we have continuously delivered immersive experiences for players with a focus on high quality FPS gameplay, exceptional art and narrative driven experiences.
