Playground Games seeks Associate Technical Designers (contract) to join their Fable team in Royal Leamington Spa, UK. The role involves using scripting and proprietary tools to implement quests, scripted events, and combat components. Collaboration with design and technical teams is crucial. Responsibilities include working with a cross-disciplinary team, using in-house tools and scripting to build game content, and ensuring high-quality delivery. The ideal candidate possesses scripting experience (C++, C# preferred but not essential), a passion for problem-solving, and strong communication skills. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the studio.

Playground Games is looking for Associate Technical Designers to join our Fable team on a contract basis. 

About us:

As a first-party Xbox Game Studio, we are passionate about making genre-defining games that are accessible, beautiful, and, most of all, fun. We are excited to be rebooting the much-loved Fable franchise and are expanding our diverse team to create a new classic in the action RPG genre. 

About the role:

As an Associate Technical Designer, you will be working with technical and design disciplines. You will use scripting and proprietary tools to implement quests, scripted events, and encounters. 
Our ideal candidate is a promising scripter who is passionate about their craft, building content, delivering great player experiences, and is skilled in problem identification and solving. 
This is a contract role based at our state-of-the-art facilities in Royal Leamington Spa. We have a hybrid work model in place with a minimum of 3 days a week in studio. Relocation assistance is available if required.   

What you’ll do:

  • Work with a highly motivated, talented, cross-discipline team
  • Use tools and scripting within our custom, proprietary engine to implement quests, scripted events, core combat components, and encounters to the highest standard
  • Collaborate with creative and technical disciplines to deliver content to expectations.  

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrable experience using visual scripting tools
  • Interest in collaborating with a team of diverse perspectives to derive great solutions
  • Passion for problem identification and solving
  • A flexible, highly motivated and friendly approach to your work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A genuine passion for video games
  • Text-based scripting experience in C++, C# or similar is desired but not essential
