Job Description

As a Music Level Designer, you'll create engaging levels for hybrid-casual mobile music games. You'll collaborate with designers and other departments, ensuring levels align with the game's vision and integrate music-driven mechanics. Responsibilities include level design execution, prototyping and testing, documentation, collaboration with game designers, research and innovation. You'll design well-paced, balanced, and polished levels, create prototypes, maintain clear documentation, and contribute to player retention and engagement. The role requires experience in mobile game level design, a strong portfolio, and an understanding of player behavior in this genre.
Must have:
  • 2-4 years level design experience (mobile game)
  • Portfolio showcasing level design work
  • Experience balancing challenge, accessibility, and progression
  • Interpreting playtest data and adjusting designs
  • Designing levels for music games (plus)
  • Strong grasp of level layout, pacing, and player progression
  • Designing levels integrating with rhythm-based gameplay
  • Understanding of hybrid-casual mobile game audiences

Job Details

OBJECTIVES

    • As a Level Designer, you will create and refine levels that provide engaging and enjoyable experiences for players.You will collaborate with Senior Level Designers, Game Designers, and other departments to ensure that levels align with the game’s vision and effectively integrate music-driven mechanics. This role requires creativity, technical expertise, and a strong understanding of player behavior in mobile games.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Level Design Execution:
    • Design and implement fun, well-paced levels that resonate with hybrid-casual mobile music game players.
    • Ensure levels reflect the game’s rhythm-based mechanics and enhance player engagement.
    • Prototyping and Testing:
    • Build level prototypes to test ideas quickly and iterate based on playtest feedback.
    • Collaborate with QC and other team members to identify and address design issues.
    • Documentation and Communication:
    • Maintain detailed documentation for level designs, including layouts, and flowcharts.
    • Communicate level design updates and intentions effectively to the team.
    • Game Design Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Game Designers to integrate mechanics into levels seamlessly.
    • Incorporate music and gameplay elements cohesively to enhance the player experience.
    • Research and Innovation:
    • Study trends in mobile game-level design and analyze successful games for insights.
    • Learn and apply best practices for designing levels that align with the hybrid-casual genre.


    • Expected Output
    • Well-designed, balanced, and polished levels that align with the game’s vision.
    • Prototypes that demonstrate innovative-level concepts and ideas.
    • Updated and clear documentation for all levels designed.
    • Contributions to improving player retention and engagement metrics through level design.

QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience
    • 2-4 years of experience in level design, with at least one shipped mobile game.
    • A portfolio showcasing your level design work.
    • Experience in balancing challenge, accessibility, and player progression.
    • Experience in interpreting playtest data and adjusting designs accordingly.
    • Experience in designing levels for music games is a strong plus.
    • Skills & Knowledge
    • Strong grasp of level layout, pacing, and player progression principles.
    • Ability to design levels that integrate seamlessly with rhythm-based gameplay.
    • Understanding of hybrid-casual mobile game audiences and preferences.
    • Clear and concise communication of level design ideas and updates.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to address gameplay and technical challenges.
    • Good at Feedback Reception and Constructive Criticism.
    • Pay Attention to Detail and Precision.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and top-performing games.
    • Familiar with industry-standard game design tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Jira, Confluence, Figma, etc.).
