The Line Maintenance Technician is responsible for operating, performing preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting high-speed manufacturing equipment in an FDA-regulated environment. This role involves installation, repair, and maintenance of specialized and highly automated production line equipment. Key duties include completing preventive maintenance work orders, responding to machine repair calls, identifying and resolving recurring maintenance problems, and adhering to safety guidelines and documentation practices. The technician will also utilize a computerized maintenance management system and interface with the storeroom, working overtime as needed.
Must have:
  • Technical degree or diploma in a manufacturing technology discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, or equipment repair.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment involving mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hardware.
  • Adherence to company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Good to have:
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining high-speed manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMP's, ISO, and quality system regulations.
  • Ability to navigate documents and drawings in applicable systems.
  • Experience with component rebuilds.

Position Summary:

The Line Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-speed manufacturing equipment in the FDA regulated environment of bioMerieux, Inc. St Louis. This role performs installation, repair, and maintenance of specialized and highly automated production line equipment.

 

Primary Duties:

  1. Preventive Maintenance
    1. Complete Preventive Maintenance work orders prior to the completion due date.
    2. Review Line Maintenance work instructions and modify as needed.
    3. Maintain production equipment to run at required specifications.
    4. Notify supervision of any PM inadequacies or parts shortages.
    5. Complete preventive maintenance with no negative impact to production.
    6. Perform component rebuilds as time allows.

 

       2. Corrective/Urgent Maintenance

    1. Follow proper procedures and techniques.
    2. Quickly respond to line calls for machine repairs and adjustments.
    3. Determine what tools are needed to effectively complete work orders.
    4. Determine if the corrective maintenance job is one of a repetitive nature.  If so, develop a process to eliminate the reoccurrence.

 

      3.  Miscellaneous

    1. Adhere to company and OSHA safety guidelines and support safety activities such as safety audits and adherence of wearing personal protective equipment.
    2. Establish good documentation practices
    3. Complete all scheduled training on-time.
    4. Use of a computerized maintenance management system(CMMS) correctly by completing pms, enter urgent work orders, attach parts, attach labor, search for parts.
    5. Interface with the storeroom.  If a part is not stocked or counts are incorrect inform the Storeroom Coordinator to resolve the issue.
    6. Work overtime as needed to ensure the required labor resource needs are met.
    7. Navigation of finding documents and drawings in the applicable system
    8. Consult with other maintenance personnel as warranted to discuss issues that affect the operations of the maintenance department by identifying and to help resolve recurring maintenance problems.
    9. Reliable attendance and punctuality are an essential job function required for this position.

 

Education and Experience Required:

  1. Technical degree in a manufacturing technology discipline such as Industrial Controls, Logic Programming, Manufacturing Processing, related field with 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, equipment repair OR high school diploma/GED and 3 years experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment operating/running high speed equipment, maintenance, mechanical, HVAC, or equipment repair
  2. Knowledge of manufacturing equipment involving mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic hardware.
  3. Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining high speed manufacturing is preferred.
  4. Knowledge of understanding good manufacturing practices (GMP’s), ISO, and quality system regulations is preferred.

 

Working Conditions:

Standing, repetitive hand and arm motions at times, ability to climb steps.
Lifting (up to 50Lbs) and moving containers of cartons, tubes, and materials.
Operating within cool temperature and low humidity conditions within the production room.  Constant noise is common due to the operation of the air-dry chamber, taping and pouching equipment.  
Excellent personal hygiene required.  Appropriate gowning requirements necessary for the production areas.  Gloves are required to handle the product. Hairnet, clean room gowns and/or lab coats are required. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required personal protective gear.  
Occasional environmental odors may be prevalent.
