This is a contract position for a Production Assistant at Lightspeed Studios, supporting motion capture production for a new AAA open-world game. Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of motion capture studio production, ensuring smooth operations by proactively identifying and addressing needs. This involves managing supplies, catering, coordinating pre/post-production activities, collaborating with teams, tracking finances, assisting the producer with schedules and tasks, and providing motion capture support such as marking actors and taking notes. The ideal candidate is highly organized, a strong communicator, detail-oriented, and a creative problem-solver, comfortable handling multiple tasks.

What the Role Entails

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Motion Capture Production Assistant to join our in-house team and help create world-class performance capture on a new and exciting open-world AAA game. We are seeking someone who will bring passion to the role, collaborating closely with the motion capture and other disciplinary teams, to help create outstanding performances. Below is an outline of responsibilities and some of the qualities we look for in the ideal teammate.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in all aspects of the production experience at the Motion Capture Studio, tying together any loose ends to achieve a smooth production. This is a very proactive position, in need of someone who will seek out the little things that need to be done.

  • Keep all studio supplies well-stocked, including but not limited to snacks, drinks, office supplies, medical supplies, etc. and maintaining purchase list when things are needed.

  • Catering: Ordering breakfast and lunch for shoot days, understanding all dietary restrictions, and setting up food as it arrives.

  • Shoot day support to production teams including preparing and managing scripts and shotlists, catering, talent and external vendor support and paperwork, camera placement, stage hand work, misc. administrative work and greeting/directing visitors as they arrive.

  • Coordinate pre-production and post-production activities, keeping thorough notes to distribute after meetings, and assisting with meeting creation when necessary.

  • Collaborate with producer (and animation teams if necessary) to collect all necessary information for shoots. This includes creating call sheets for the shoot, setting up calendar invites, confirming that the proper character rigs, props, environments, etc. for shoots are correct in Shotgrid, and helping manage logistics and timelines.

  • Light finance tracking: Track department expenditures and assist in budget monitoring, assist in purchase orders if necessary.

  • Assist the Motion Capture Producer in schedules, tracking of tasks and progress, to meet milestones and deadlines. Weekly communication to security of Guest list for upcoming week, sending out weekly role sheet, and updating department blog.

  • Motion Capture assistance including markering actors, assisting talent to various prep areas, and taking production notes during a shoot. Stage maintenance and organization, including laundry.

  • High interest and eagerness in assisting and/or learning the Mocap pipeline: additional skills preferred may include workshop experience, experience in 3d software, previous experience in Motion Capture, Film, TV or video games, and/or coding knowledge.

Who We Look For

  • Minimum 1+ years of experience in video games, television, film or other related industry, motion capture experience a plus.

  • The ideal candidate will be highly organized, an exceptional communicator (written and verbal) and very proactive in their duties, with strong initiative.

  • Detail oriented with creative problem-solving skills, ability to juggle many small tasks effectively.

  • Previous live production experience, an understanding of asset management and project management a plus.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard processes, protocols, and best practices related to motion capture, animation, and visual effects.

  • Willingness to learn, contribute and adapt to new processes and procedures.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, think critically, and find solutions efficiently during motion capture sessions.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborate with production and motion capture teams, and communicate clearly and concisely with performers and other production personnel.

  • Proven ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines.

  • Eagerness to learn new software tools and technologies related to motion capture production.

  • Experience in Google suite, Confluence, Jira and Shotgrid a plus

  • Additional skills such as workshop experience, 3d software, coding, etc. are highly preferred.

  • Believe in collaboration, integrity, creativity and proactivity.

The base pay range for this position in the state(s) above is $33.0 to $68.5 per hour. Actual pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as other medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the specific position offered.
