Western Digital is seeking a Senior Engineer, Analytical & Characterization Engineering. This role involves conducting advanced materials characterization and analysis for Manufacturing Operations and R&D. The engineer will develop and implement automation solutions and data analytics tools to improve lab processes and data interpretation. Collaboration with Process Development Teams to correlate process outputs with characterization data is crucial. The ideal candidate needs strong technical skills, a collaborative approach, and excellent communication abilities to convey complex technical information effectively. Must have:
  • Bachelor's/Master's in Materials Science/Engineering or Physics
  • 2-5 years of work experience
  • Understand material properties, phase diagrams, microstructural analysis
  • Familiarity with SEM, TEM, EDX, AFM
  • Knowledge of Microscopy and Spectroscopy
  • Proficient English communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Good to have:
  • Proficiency in statistical methods (DoE, regression analysis)
  • Experience in AFM

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced materials characterization and analysis to support both Manufacturing Operations and R&D initiatives.
  • Additionally, this role requires expertise in developing and implementing automation solutions and data analytics tools to streamline lab processes and enhance data interpretation.
  • The successful candidate will work closely with Process Development Teams to integrate and correlate process outputs with characterization data, fostering a holistic understanding of material behavior and performance.
  • Strong technical acumen, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively are essential for this position.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's and Master degree in Materials Science/Engineering or Physics with minimum 2-5 years of work experience
  • Understanding of material properties, phase diagrams, and microstructural analysis, ability to connect material properties with process parameters and outcomes
  • Materials Characterization for example: SEM, TEM, EDX, AFM etc.
  • Knowledge of Microscopy and Spectroscopy 

PREFERRED:

  • Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in statistical methods, including DoE and regression analysis
  • Experience in AFM is great advantage

SKILLS:

  • Capable of communicating in English
  • Satisfactory communication skills for effective teamwork and presentation
  • Problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
