Job Description

The Show Audio and Video Designer is a member of the technical show quality team, working closely with Parks & Resorts Facility Services Cast Members to ensure the highest quality audio and video systems throughout the resort. This role requires a strong creative sense for Disney theme environments, in-depth knowledge of the Disney brand, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities include leading large design projects, communicating AV design concepts, and guiding projects from feasibility through installation, programming, testing, training, and post-turnover support. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in theme park AV design and possess a deep understanding of industry standards and emerging technologies. This role also involves monitoring parkwide and attraction audio/video quality, identifying and resolving issues, proposing upgrade plans, and developing training programs for AV standards, maintenance, and design.

  • Proficiency with CAD, Revit or similar design software
  • Excellent computer systems, database and documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Highly organized, independent and team worker
  • Ownership mindset and responsibility for guest experience

Job Summary:

The Show Audio and Video Designer is a member of the technical show quality team and works very closely with Parks & Resorts Facility Services Cast Members to maintain the highest quality of audio and video system throughout the resort. In additional to a high degree of AV technical skills, the Show Audio and Video Designer also has a creative sense for proper Disney theme environment, a strong knowledge of the Disney brand, and the capacity to work independently as well as in a team environment.

They should have the capability to lead large projects under the creative direction.

Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining the media database for all locations, conducting a training class on artistic maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead design on large projects, communicate AV design concepts, and guide projects from feasibility through installation, programming, testing, training and post-turnover support
  • Understand creative intent, set up demos to test and showcase concepts
  • Interface with electrical engineering to ensure AV design compliance
  • Conduct technical show reviews independently, identify defects and propose practical solutions
  • Monitor parkwide and attraction audio/video quality daily, proactively address issues with cross-functional partners
  • Identify obsolete AV products, propose upgrade plans
  • Initiate AV system rehab projects including proposals, budgeting, scheduling, and prioritization
  • Create and teach regular classes on AV standards, maintenance and design; update training materials
  • Develop relationships with global counterparts and internal stakeholders
  • Update documentation including specifications, manuals, engineering drawings
  • Support park expansion projects by providing input, installation support, vendor interface, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (electronics, IT, communication, lighting, visual design, audio engineering)
  • Minimum 5 years in theme parks, 10 years in the industry
  • Experience leading large, complex theme park projects
  • Current knowledge of new and emerging AV technologies
  • Strong experience with SQS standards and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of AV equipment and vendor relationships
  • Ability to define and teach training classes
  • Strong creative visual sense; familiarity with LED, projection and display devices
  • Expertise in video systems, projection alignment/mapping
  • Knowledge of structures/mechanical for projector frame and cable design
  • Q-sys troubleshooting and programming skills
  • Audio networking application experience
  • Proficiency with CAD, Revit or similar design software
