Job Description

As a Technical Artist at Build A Rocket Boy, you'll collaborate with the art team to enhance cutting-edge visuals, troubleshoot issues, offer technical guidance, and define art workflows. Key responsibilities include defining and maintaining art workflows, communicating pipelines, problem-solving, guiding artists on best practices, suggesting new technologies, collaborating with engineers on pipeline enhancements, and providing guidance on technical performance and asset budgets. You'll work closely with Technical Art Direction and Production to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work. The role requires 3+ years of experience in the games industry and a solid understanding of game engines, 3D modeling tools (like 3ds Max, Maya, or ZBrush), art pipelines, and memory/rendering budgets.

As a Technical Artist here at Build A Rocket Boy, you will be working alongside a talented art team driving forwards cutting-edge visuals, investigating and fixing various issues, providing technical guidance, and defining art workflow and pipelines.

Working closely with Technical Art Direction and the Production team, you will ensure that your work is delivered on time and to the standards required, helping to increase the quality of the games.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Art Teams to define and maintain art workflows, folder structure and naming conventions.
  • Clearly communicate and document art production pipelines.
  • General problem-solving.
  • Provide guidance to artists, defining best working practices and strong asset organisation.
  • Proactively provide suggestions on how to utilise new technologies and tools and implement them into our workflow.
  • Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues and find solutions to help further enhance our art pipeline.
  • Provide clear guidance on technical performance constraints and help define asset budgets.

Requirements

  • 3+ years minimum experience as Technical Artist in the games industry.
  • Intermediate knowledge of game engines and the technical constraints and challenges of game development.
  • Experience with 3D modelling tools such as 3ds Max, Maya, or ZBrush, in a video game environment.
  • Technical understanding of art pipelines, memory and rendering budgets.
  • Strong interest in the latest advancements in video game graphics and visual trends.
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of at least one programming language (such as Python, C++).
  • Nice to have: Understanding of modern procedural asset creation techniques (Scanning, Marvellous).
