We are seeking a Technical Artist (Graphics & Rendering) to enhance the visual quality of our games by optimizing rendering performance, expanding shader capabilities, and creating VFX solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of rendering pipelines, shader programming, and visual effects within Unity. You will collaborate with engineers and artists to improve our graphics technology and ensure optimal content appearance and performance. Key responsibilities include shader development and debugging using HLSL/Shader Graph, working with Unity's rendering pipeline (URP/HDRP or custom solutions), and solving rendering-related performance and visual issues across platforms.
Must have:

Job Details

We're a small creative team of video game developers based in Boulder, Colorado with team members across the United States who are focused on creating kind, collaborative, and imaginative games. We formed in late 2019, with the desire to assemble the best and brightest in the industry to work on carefully selected projects that we deem innovative and challenging.

In 2023 we launched Hello Kitty Island Adventure which was the Apple Arcade Game of the Year!

As a Technical Artist (Graphics), you will maintain and develop shaders and rendering technologies for the Hello Kitty project in Unity. Collaborating closely with artists and engineers, you'll help realize our artistic vision within a technically demanding environment.

The ideal candidate has proven experience developing custom shaders from scratch and working within Unity across multiple platforms, including mobile and console games.

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Artist (Graphics & Rendering) to push the visual quality of our projects by optimizing rendering performance, extending shader capabilities, and developing VFX solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of rendering pipelines, shader programming, and visual effects within Unity. You’ll work closely with engineers and artists to enhance our graphics technology and ensure our content looks and performs at its best.

Key Responsibilities

Shader Development & Debugging – Write, optimize, and debug HLSL/Shader Graph shaders for a variety of visual effects and rendering needs.

Rendering Pipeline Expertise – Work with and extend Unity’s rendering pipeline (URP/HDRP or custom solutions) to support new content and features.

Technical Problem-Solving – Diagnose and resolve rendering-related performance and visual issues across different platforms.

Collaboration with Artists & Engineers – Bridge the gap between artistic vision and technical feasibility by developing tools and workflows that empower the art team.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience with shader programming (HLSL, Shader Graph) and rendering techniques.

• Solid understanding of Unity’s rendering pipeline (URP, HDRP, or custom solutions).

• Hands-on experience debugging and optimizing shader performance.

• Knowledge of VFX techniques (particle systems, post-processing, procedural effects).

• Ability to work closely with artists and engineers to develop efficient, high-quality graphics solutions.

• Familiarity with real-time lighting, PBR workflows, and post-processing techniques.


Nice to Have

• Experience with compute shaders and GPU-based effects.

• Experience developing visual effects using shaders, particle systems, and post-processing techniques.

• Exposure to C# scripting in Unity for integrating rendering features with gameplay.

• Experience with profiling and debugging tools (RenderDoc, PIX, Unity Frame Debugger).
