The Associate Manager, Publishing/Digital Experiences will manage and develop licensing business in the publishing category, focusing on physical/digital products utilizing Disney/Marvel/Star Wars/NatGeo properties. Responsibilities include understanding market requirements, identifying suitable products and launch timing, developing and negotiating deals with licensees, driving sales growth, analyzing market trends, proposing new business ideas, collaborating with licensees on forecasts, managing daily licensee contacts, contract renewals, sales updates, and reporting to the Director. The role requires managing the entire deal process, from NDA to negotiation, and involves content development/marketing experience. Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and leadership skills are essential.

Job Summary:

  • Manage and develop licensing business in publishing category containing physical/digital publishing products, capitalizing on Disney/Marvel/Star Wars/NatGeo properties under supervision of Publishing/Digital Ex. Director.
  • Understand market requirements and identify appropriate products with most appropriate launch timing, business models and licensees/partners who have expertise in their field of business.
  • Develop and negotiate deals with licensees/partners and manage product and marketing approvals for the licensees.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive and grow the business with sales target.
  • Analyze market conditions to identify trends and key success factors to grow the business.
  • Propose new ideas to licensees or new business partners. Lead deal negotiations to close them successfully.
  • Responsible in collaborating closely with licensees and develop AOP/5YP forecast, ensuring goals and targets are to be achieved according to the plan.
  • Manage daily contacts with licensees.
    • Contract renewal negotiations
    • Sales update, analysis and forecasting
    • Minutes of key meetings and negotiations

  • Product and marketing approval management
  • Communicate with global counterparts and be always up to date on global product and/or concept availability and contents.
  • Report business progress to Director regularly as well as ad hoc reports.

Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above
  • 4-8 years of experiences in publishing business and/or licensing business.
  • Basic understanding to Japan publishing markets.
  • Experience of managing the new deal from the beginning to the end (NDA, deal term negotiations, etc.).
  • Contents development and/or content marketing experience.

    • Good communication skills particularly in negotiation, leadership and interpersonal relationships.
  • Previous Work (or other requisite) Experience:
    • First-hand experience with the following not an absolute requirement but preferred.
      • Sales & Marketing experience.
      • New Business Development
      • Project management experience involving 3 or more stake holders.
      • High understanding in digital publishing business including manga is preferred.

Any other Requirements (e.g. language):

  • Native-level fluency in Japanese and good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are required.
  • Sense of commitment and responsibility to one’s business responsibilities with passion.
  • Understanding of company priorities, and how one’s business responsibilities tie into them.
  • Strong interests in various types of publishing contents (Books & Magazine, Mook, Partworks, Manga, Webtoon, Audio Book, Motion Book, e-learning, AR, etc.) and creating new product categories.
