The Cosmetology Specialist at Walt Disney World is responsible for the creation and production of high-quality wigs and facial hair for Disney characters, entertainers, and special event performers. This role involves cutting, styling, and building wigs from various materials, applying advanced wig techniques (lace front, blending, adhesives), and utilizing makeup and airbrush application. Responsibilities include maintaining wig and makeup documentation, collaborating with the creative team on new designs, supporting performer fittings, communicating with vendors, and meeting production goals. The ideal candidate will possess a valid Florida Cosmetology License, at least two years' experience with synthetic and human hair wig styling, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. The position requires physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various conditions.

Job Summary:

Have you ever wanted to be a part of the creation of wigs for world-class entertainment offerings? We are currently seeking Cosmetology Specialists! In this role, we are the subject matter experts in the creation and production of wigs and facial hair, as well as sophisticated makeup, airbrush, and prosthetic application. We also build and maintain wig and makeup documentation for our world-famous Disney Characters, Entertainers, and Special Event performers.

You will report to the Cosmetology Manager.

The pay rate for this role in Florida is $23.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Cut and style wigs and facial hair of different fibers and grades
  • Build wigs from raw materials and track inventory of materials
  • Show skill in complex wig styling
  • Use advanced wig application (such as lace front, blended or with adhesives), roller sets as well as makeup and/or airbrush application
  • Sew together and fasten materials including fur, braids, facial hair, bonded hair to construct wigs
  • Build hairpieces such as braids, switches, and chignons
  • Use and maintain clippers, scissors, trimmers, and razors
  • Create and maintain wig and makeup documentation through computer programs Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Research wig and makeup options for new designs, collaborating with the Creative team on new offerings
  • Support performer fittings and trainings where you may be exposed to performers in various stages of dress/undress
  • Communicate with vendors on production quality and quantities with supervision
  • Track work in progress including spending awareness and time lines
  • Meet production goals and communicate progress to leadership for a timely delivery

Basic Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • A valid FL Cosmetology License
  • Two (2) + years of experience with synthetic and/or human hair wig styling
  • Confirmed knowledge of complex makeup application techniques
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and at varying elevations
  • Physical role requiring prolonged standing or sitting, walking long distances and repetitive bending, twisting, grasping, clutching with hands at or above chest level for extended periods
  • Willing to work with elements made from natural or synthetic materials such as fur, latex, or mylar

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience as a licensed Cosmetologist
  • Experience in building, crafting or styling complex synthetic wigs
  • Solid understanding/skill in creating iconic Disney character wigs and facial hair
  • Experience in airbrushing and prosthetics
  • Experience with photo editing computer software
