Job Description

As a key member of the Scout Brake Team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and launching state-of-the-art brake system components for high-performance BEV/EREV vehicles. This includes calipers, rotors, lines, hoses, actuation systems, and pedal assemblies. You will work cross-functionally to ensure brake system components meet design and performance requirements, coordinate with suppliers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams for validation and testing. In addition, you will be expected to stay current with industry trends and advancements.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Over 4 years of experience in brake engineering.
  • Experience with CAD/FEA.
  • Deep understanding of brake systems.
  • Advanced project steering and coordination skills.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Become a key player on the Scout Brake Team, where you'll design, develop, and launch state-of-the-art brake system components including calipers, rotors, lines, hoses, actuation systems, and pedal assembliesfor high performance BEV/EREV vehicles.
  • Release designs into Scout system, work cross-functionally to ensure brake system components meet design/performance requirements. 
  • Coordinate with supplier(s) for engineering activities, ensuring supplier meets requirements set by Scout.  
  • Collaborate with suppliers and Scout cross-functional teams to ensure brake system components meet validation and testing requirements.
  • Work with pre-series team to coordinate prototype part design, and work with supplier to deliver on those requirements. 
  • Provide brake expertise to the broader Scout team; technical support and collaborate with other teams to ensure the quality and consistency of brake system components.
  • Coordinate and consult other teams (outside engineering), as needed, to ensure brake components meet Scout requirements (ie: procurement, quality, production….). 
  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions to contribute innovative ideas that enhance brake system performance and efficiency. 
  • Introduce innovative ideas and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the company's vision is achieved. 
  • Critically review existing designs, ideas, and specifications, proposing engineering improvements. 
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements related to brake systems, electric vehicle technologies, safety regulations, and performance requirements. 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan 
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience: Over 4 years of experience in brake engineering with a focus on brake system development, preferably in the automotive industry or electric vehicle sector. OEM experience is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with CAD/FEA
    • Deep understanding of brake systems, and their requirements.
    • Proficiency in requirements management and system integration.
  • Project Management: Advanced project steering and coordination skills, with the ability to independently manage projects and suppliers.
  • Motivation and Innovation: Highly motivated engineer eager to work at the forefront of electric vehicle technical design, generate innovative ideas and solutions, and engage in hands-on testing.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including ownership, self-motivation, problem-solving, analytical thinking, teamwork, innovation, creativity, communication, and the ability to develop and thrive in collaborative working relationships.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with brake system regulations and standards, including FMVSS, VDA, ISO, and SAE guidelines.

  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Engineering Excellence: Uphold the vision of engineering excellence and serve as a source of technical knowledge. 
  • Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented approach to design, testing, and documentation

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000 - $135,000

Internal leveling code: IC9
