Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer at Cognite, you will develop and maintain next-generation authentication and IAM features within the SaaS platform. You will deliver secure and reliable solutions for identity, access management, and auditing at scale. This role involves shaping the product direction by working closely with teams across engineering, product, and customer success. You will continuously monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and security of our authorization services. The role requires proactively fixing vulnerabilities, streamlining code, and reducing technical debt. The position is a hybrid role working from the Oslo office. As the first line of defense for securing privileged customer data, this work is crucial for customer and company success.

Must have:

5+ years of backend experience in Kotlin or Java.
Deep interest or hands-on expertise in authorization, authentication, and security.
Strong coding fundamentals – clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
Hands-on experience with large-scale cloud deployments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Kubernetes.
Proven ability to prioritize work for maximum impact.

Good to have:

Skilled at identifying and resolving issues using logs, traces, and metrics.
Great communication and teamwork skills, with bonus points for React experience.

The Product team is the team responsible for developing Cognite Data Fusion as a robust and scalable platform for solving industrial data problems at Cognite. Cognite’s Cognite Data Fusion makes the operational data available at scale and adds value to the data through data processing. This enables asset-intensive industries to make data-driven decisions. Our platform is built on various technologies, each good at solving various challenges.

We believe in autonomous teams with developers, product managers and technical program managers working closely together. You'll work with skilled engineers on a critical authentication and authorization service, using the latest technologies and iterating quickly with end users for better product experiences.

This position is a hybrid role working from the Oslo office.

As the first line of defense for securing privileged customer data, our work is crucial for customer and company success. Operating at the intersection of security, infrastructure, and feature development, our developers tackle creative technical challenges daily and engage with Cognite's most impactful business problems.

As an engineer at Cognite you will:

Develop and maintain next-generation authentication and IAM features within our SaaS platform
Deliver secure, reliable solutions for identity, access management, and auditing at scale
Shape our product’s direction by working closely with teams across engineering, product, and customer success
Continuously monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and security of our authorization services
Proactively fix vulnerabilities, streamline code, and reduce technical debt
Keep our documentation clear, current, and genuinely helpful

We believe most of these should match you and your experience

5+ years of backend experience in Kotlin or Java, ideally from a SaaS product environment
Deep interest or hands-on expertise in authorization, authentication, and security
Strong coding fundamentals – clean, efficient, and maintainable code – and the flexibility to learn new languages
Hands-on experience with large-scale cloud deployments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and Kubernetes
Proven ability to prioritize work for maximum impact
Skilled at identifying and resolving issues using logs, traces, and metrics
Great communication and teamwork skills, with bonus points for React experience
