Job Description
Smarsh is seeking a Manager, Engineering to lead the Workload Management team, which is integral to the Smarsh Fabric platform. This role involves developing robust, scalable, and secure data solutions. The manager will lead and mentor engineers responsible for data store clusters and infrastructure, driving the design and implementation of high-availability solutions for MongoDB and other data stores. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, fostering continuous improvement, and ensuring adherence to best practices in security, reliability, and performance are key. The role also includes managing team capacity, prioritizing tasks, participating in strategic planning, advocating for platform engineering principles, and supporting on-call rotations. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, at least 2 years in a management position, strong understanding of cloud platforms, experience in a programming language like Python, Java, or Go, familiarity with IaC/IfC tools such as Terraform, and experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years in a management position.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their data services.
- Strong experience in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go).
- Familiarity with IaC/IfC tools (e.g., Terraform).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience managing teams responsible for development and production support.
- Proven ability to lead through change and guide teams through ambiguity.
- Experience running production workloads at scale on AWS.
Good to have:
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Kafka, MongoDB, or similar systems.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience implementing and advocating for platform engineering principles.

This team is dedicated to developing robust, scalable, and secure data solutions that empower our products to deliver exceptional value to our customers. Embracing a DevOps culture, the team adheres to Site Reliability Engineering principles, including proactivity, automation, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making.
How will you contribute?
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers responsible for managing Smarsh’s data store clusters and associated infrastructure.
- Drive the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-availability solutions for MongoDB and other data stores.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and innovation within the team.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in security, reliability, and performance across our data systems.
- Collaborating with Technical Product Management, manage team capacity, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the technical roadmap for the Workload Management team.
- Advocate for and implement platform engineering principles within the team.
- Support the team during on-call rotations and critical incidents, ensuring system reliability and availability.
What will you bring?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
