The Materials Driver I operates a medium to large box truck, loading and unloading raw materials and finished goods. They must adhere to cGMP, ISO, and FDA regulations, along with company policies. Responsibilities include material movement, storage, and administrative tasks for receiving, shipping, and supporting all material types, especially in manufacturing replenishment. This role involves real-time electronic transactions in warehouse management software and implementing lean manufacturing principles. Drivers must follow all state and federal laws, OSHA guidelines, and designated routes. They also perform pre-trip inspections, monitor vehicle maintenance, and ensure material quality. Receiving, quantifying, storing incoming material with warehouse equipment from various delivery sources. Process deliveries to ensure material transactions occur for all departmental activities.
Must have:
  • Abide by state and federal laws for company vehicle operation.
  • Follow all OSHA Safety Guidelines for warehouses.
  • Drive designated routes as assigned by leadership.
  • Physically and electronically move materials.
  • Check deliveries to ensure material quality standards.
  • Perform real time daily material replenishment.
  • High level of accuracy with logging, labeling, tracking, transporting, and entering material lot information into Warehouse Management software.
Good to have:
  • Inventory, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and straight truck driving experience is preferred.
  • Materials handling experience within the medical device industry, including working with the FDA regarding control of materials for instruments and chemistry, preferred.

Job Details

Position Summary:

Operates a medium to large sized box truck. Loads and unloads raw material and finished goods at various locations in a timely and effective manner. Perform work in compliance with all cGMP, ISO, and FDA regulations in addition to company policy and safety guidelines. Responsible for the physical movement, support, and administrative tasks involved in receiving, shipping, storing, and support of all material types. Specifically in material replenishment support of Manufacturing. This role will also be responsible for the real time electronic transactions in various Warehouse Management software. Learn and implement basics of lean manufacturing and good housekeeping principles. Work shifts may vary dependent on business needs.

 

Primary Duties:

  1. The driver must abide by all State and Federal laws associated with operating a company vehicle, including but not limited to knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations and Utah Administrative rules for motor carriers.
  2. Follow all general OSHA Safety Guidelines for warehouses.
  3. Drive a designated route as assigned by leadership.
  4. Physically and electronically move finished goods and raw material with warehouse equipment to designated locations.
  5. Monitor vehicle maintenance including pre-trip inspection.
  6. Check deliveries to make sure all ordered material meets quality standards.
  7. Receive, quantify, and store incoming material with warehouse equipment from various delivery sources.
  8. Document data from logistics KPOs.
  9. Perform related transactions, bin maintenance, and maintain shelving for the stocking of material.
  10. Perform real time daily replenishment of material in a “Just in Time” manner to support internal customers.
  11. Process all deliveries to ensure material transactions occur for all departmental activities.
  12. Perform high level of accuracy with logging, labeling, tracking, transporting, and entering material lot information into Warehouse Management software.
  13. Aid in the identification and movement of non-conforming material.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Exemplify professionalism and collaborative interpersonal communication with internal and external customers.
  2. Ensure continuous compliance with applicable training including but not limited to Work Instruction Documents.
  3. Demonstrate high level awareness of safety protocol within work environment.

 

Training, Education & Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. A valid Utah Driver’s License is required.
  3. This is an entry-level role. No previous experience is required, however, inventory, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and straight truck driving experience is preferred.
  4. Materials handling experience within the medical device industry, including working with the FDA regarding control of materials for instruments and chemistry, preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. High level of accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in all job duties.
  2. Demonstrates an understanding of all warehouse functions. 
  3. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internal software. 
  4. Excellent communication skills.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
  • Ability to maintain 3 points of contact while entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Successfully pass state DOT physical and maintain medical examiner certificate.

Must be able to work in warehouse conditions with long periods of standing, climbing, bending, walking, and reaching in wide temperature ranges and inclement weather. High level of repetitive motion. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to operate material handling equipment. Overtime may be required. The work is fast paced and must be able to work under pressure.
