Position Overview
The Autodesk Growth Engineering Technology – Commerce and Support Assistant team is looking for a passionate Principal Software Engineer with extensive experience in distributed systems to join us. Become a key part of Autodesk’s mission to build a scalable, real-time collaboration and AI assistant platform that powers support and commerce experiences across Autodesk products.
This role is based in Bengaluru, India, and reports to a Senior Engineering Manager located in San Francisco, CA, USA. This is an exciting opportunity to build innovative systems and learn from some of the best in the industry.
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Principal Software Engineer who can hit the ground running and bring deep technical expertise in Search technologies and Generative AI, including Vector Search and Generative Search systems. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on solving challenging problems and building intelligent, scalable systems using AWS OpenSearch, Bedrock, and optionally Azure AI Search.
Responsibilities
Tackle the most complex technical challenges from system design to production deployment, with a strong focus on search relevancy and generative AI
Develop robust and scalable solutions for both traditional Search Result and Generative Result use cases
Architect and implement systems leveraging Vector Search, Generative Search, and LLM-powered pipelines
Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions used company-wide, integrating with multiple applications and services
Establish architectural standards and solve key architectural challenges across the codebase
Participate in and lead code reviews, create detailed technical documentation, and resolve high-risk bugs
Drive large-scale initiatives in collaboration with other engineering teams and product stakeholders
Mentor and support junior engineers through technical guidance and hands-on collaboration
Provide on-call support on a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 application uptime
Minimum Qualifications
BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
6+ years of experience developing scalable, distributed systems as a full-stack engineer
Proven track record building and maintaining applications in a microservices architecture
Strong programming experience with ReactJS, NodeJS, TypeScript, and JavaScript
Deep understanding of building and consuming RESTful APIs
Strong experience in AWS services, especially OpenSearch or Bedrock. Familiarity with Azure AI Search is a plus
Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as cloud-native application design
Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins), and Agile methodologies like SCRUM
Excellent communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
Strong technical writing skills for authoring specifications, designs, and architectural documentation
Highly self-motivated with strong problem-solving and team collaboration abilities
