As a Product Manager for the Developer Portal at Netflix, you'll drive the evolution of tools and experiences for Netflix engineers. Responsibilities encompass user journey design, metadata management, automation, and ensuring a unified developer experience across diverse projects. You'll also analyze industry trends, make strategic decisions, and track key performance metrics. Success requires a deep technical understanding, customer empathy, and the ability to manage a diverse product portfolio.
Must have:

Within the Platform Engineering organization, our Developer Platform exists to maximize the impact of Netflix engineers by providing holistic experiences for building and managing software through the entire lifecycle of development, delivery, operations, and maintenance. Our Developer Platform enables Netflix to scale effectively and evolve rapidly by providing highly reliable, performant, secure, and flexible developer tools, services, and infrastructure to support the expanding needs of the business. Ultimately, we aim for Netflix engineers to spend less time on repetitive engineering tasks, unnecessary complexity, and undifferentiated heavy lifting so they can spend more time helping Netflix entertain the world.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a technical product manager to help drive the next evolution of our Developer Portal. Your mission is to ensure Netflix engineers can easily discover, learn, and use our developer portal to build and manage software for their use cases with low friction, cognitive load, and choice burden. 

This product domain focuses on our engineering console, software catalog management, and front door developer experience. You’ll drive cross-cutting, end-to-end user journeys, including product discovery, learning, and integrated knowledge, software catalog and search with robust automation for maintaining accurate metadata, ownership information, and health metrics. You'll ensure comprehensive project bootstrapping and provisioning workflows, and scorecards to check, measure, report and provide actionable feedback and guidance on alignment to recommended products and software standards & practices.

You'll innovate to ensure our products are connected into a unified, consistent experience across developer workflows, where engineers can easily discover and navigate guidance for their use cases with well-paved options and recommendations. You’ll also ensure we reduce time to market for platform providers to ship new experiences and capabilities into this unified developer experience.

What You Will Do

  • Deeply understand and triangulate across customer needs, product analytics, and external industry innovation to drive product vision and strategy for Developer Portal offerings that maximize business and customer impact

  • Partner closely with senior management and engineering teams to define and align with stakeholders on vision, strategy, and roadmaps

  • Develop product roadmaps in partnership with relevant product and engineering teams that execute on product vision and strategy and inform our engineering teams of what problems need to be solved

  • Foster a metrics-driven environment that encourages quality experimentation and sets high standards for measuring product success.

  • Stay informed about industry advancements, influence their direction, and conduct comprehensive buy vs. build analysis to align with state-of-the-art solutions, encouraging ROI-based decisions

  • Create strong partnerships with Netflix engineers creating continuous feedback loops that allow us to better understand their problems

  • Exhibit robust problem-solving and decision-making skills, tackling technical and strategic challenges in innovative ways and leveraging data and intuition to make strategic choices in the face of ambiguity and complexity.

  • Drive technical excellence in our software catalog systems, ensuring high confidence in metadata accuracy, ownership information, and system health through automation and robust validation mechanisms

  • Drive effective prioritization by sourcing input from multiple channels, ensuring we solve the right problems with the right balance of user experience and technical depth, and see features through to thorough completion with clear definition of done criteria

  • Understand and evolve the two-sided marketplace dynamics of our developer portal, including the platform/plugin model that enables teams to contribute capabilities

  • Define and track key health metrics for our software catalog and developer portal ecosystem, implementing mechanisms to maintain high quality data and metadata

  • Ensure thoughtful product evolution that addresses product lifecycle and adoption experience

  • Help evolve our customer engagement model, communication strategy, and prioritization and planning/roadmapping practices

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager with at least 3+ years of domain experience in  developer portals like console or app stores and software catalog systems

  • Strong technical understanding of software catalog architectures, metadata management, and automation systems

  • Proven track record of managing and evolving a product portfolio and/or driving product vision and strategy

  • A healthy blend of deep technical knowledge with customer-focused mindset and empathy

  • Demonstrated passion for developer platforms, developer experience, tools, workflows, and/or infrastructure

  • Strategic thinker that can connect customer use cases to technology solutions and think holistically about end-to-end experience

  • Understanding of platform/plugin architectures and experience managing two-sided marketplace dynamics

  • Ability to manage a portfolio of bigger and smaller bets while balancing short-term goals and long-term vision

  • Comfortable applying a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to define success 

  • Leverages product intuition and judgment to solve problems and make decisions without perfect information

  • Insatiable curiosity to learn new domains, keep up with industry innovation, and constantly ask ‘why’

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; timely communication with clear expectations

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top-of-market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $240,000 - $725,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
