We created Pairs to help singles discover new and interesting ways to find a life partner. In Japan, almost 83% of single people say they intend to get married someday, yet the marriage rate is declining year by year. As the leading online dating app in Japan, we're working hard every day to help singles find their true love. Since the release of Pairs in October 2012, we have helped to create opportunities for many users to find partnership and marriage. Pairs offers the opportunity to find an ideal partner that matches one's own values through various search features and a well-developed MyTag. Everyday, we receive many reports of successful matches from across Japan and from overseas. It is our hope that more and more opportunities for wonderful relationships will be created, which inspires us to improve our service every day.
Pairs is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented professional to join our Public Policy team. The person will combine a passion for technology's potential to create opportunity and to connect people in a safe and responsible manner, with deep knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics in Japan. The role will develop and execute policy and government relations strategies to advance our goals. You will build relationships with central and local government officials, trade associations, and other stakeholders to achieve policy objectives. This role is crucial in keeping our leadership up-to-date on policy shifts and their relevant business impact. This will be your opportunity to actively assist in the development and advocacy of public policy solutions to pressing high technology and safety issues that arise in the national legislature, as well as in government agencies and executive branch ministries across the government.
What You’ll do
- Leading overall public policy strategy and the day-to-day management, demonstrating the ability to drive planning and ensure flawless execution consistently
- Monitoring the political and regulatory environment in Japan, identify and evaluate the impact of legislative, regulatory and industry proposals, risks and opportunities to the company
- Shaping the climate of opinion with key third party stakeholders through smart, strategic communications
- Representing Pairs at dating apps industry gatherings, coalition meetings, and events with media, policymakers and stakeholders
- Acting as an ambassador to questions and consultations from external stakeholders on relevant issues
- Building relationships with senior leaders throughout the organization and advising them on strategic narratives across business, brand, employee and crisis communications, with a clear sense of urgency and impressive interpersonal skills
- Providing front-line support on issues requiring engagement, solving problems, and escalating to internal colleagues as needed
- Meeting with key government, political, regulator and media to help them understand Paris and advance policy beneficial to Pairs and our users
- Assisting in the preparation of presentation materials for engagement with external stakeholders including policymakers, regulators, industry association and alliance partners to promote and advocate the company’s public policies
- Managing resources for maximum efficiency, including a retainer agency to amplify your efforts
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of significant experience in government, politics, or public policy with deep familiarity across all three disciplines
- Knowledge of online dating apps and policies and operations, as well as knowledge of the online safety landscape is essential
- Excellent oral, written and communications skills, and experience in presenting to executive teams and external stakeholders
- Experience in developing and executing on issues management plans
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work in both team and individual settings
- Superior time management skills, with an ability to balance multiple project priorities under short timelines and minimal supervision
- Strong budget, project management skills
- Experience working in a fast-growing tech company
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Japanese
