Job Description

The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for understanding customers’ physical verification flows, guiding customer design teams to improve their productivity, resolving critical tool issues, and conducting technical presentations and training. They will also support technical evaluations and benchmarks, understand customer needs and the competition's technology, provide technical support, contribute to technical and sales meetings, conduct root cause analysis, develop and run test cases, author application notes, and use scripting languages for flow development. This role involves pre and post-sales technical campaigns and requires strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding customers’ physical verification and subsequent signoff flows.
  • Guiding customer design teams regarding methodology and flows to improve their productivity.
  • Resolving critical tool issues impacting project timelines, often collaborating with product development and peer AEs.
  • Conducting technical presentations, technical training, and product demonstrations to customers, including developing customized presentations as required.
  • Supporting technical evaluations/benchmarks and driving the process to deliver Cadence solutions.
  • Developing an understanding of the customer's needs and the competition's technology and sales strategies to create solutions that best meet our needs. 
  • Provide technical support in engagements with customers and field personnel in Physical verification solutions focused on the Pegasus and other supporting technologies.
  • Contribute to technical and sales meetings interacting with engineers, technical leads and executives.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide resolution to customer technical issues.
  • Develop and run testcases to verify problems, create workarounds, test and deliver R&D fixes.
  • Author application notes and help provide feedback on documentation.
  • Use scripting languages like TCL and Python for flow development, automation and enhancing design methodologies.
  • Engage with AE team on pre-sales and post-sales technical campaigns from the technical side, working along with Sales and Marketing to plan deployment, conduct technical evaluations and support.


Skills needed for this role:

  • Hands-on experience in physical verification flows and/or runset development for Custom IC/ Digital platform or layout experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, planning, and presentation skills are essential
  • Ability to work independently and productively with high-quality output and results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Must be open to constant personal development and growth to meet the evolving demands of the electronics industry

Some travel may be required and necessary

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Education: BS/MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering experience
  • Experience: 0-2 years of relevant industry experience

The annual salary range for San Jose, CA is $ 84,000 to $156,000. You may also be eligible to receive incentive compensation: bonus, equity, and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the salary range is a guideline and compensation may vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
