Job Description

The Senior Data Scientist will leverage machine learning and AI to solve real-world problems impacting Microsoft's Azure growth and monetization. Responsibilities include acquiring and analyzing diverse datasets, applying advanced statistical techniques, developing and deploying machine learning models at scale using Microsoft's tools and frameworks, communicating findings to stakeholders, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role requires expertise in data science, statistical modeling, programming (Python, R, etc.), and cloud technologies (Azure). The candidate will mentor team members and contribute to a data-driven culture.
Must have:
  • Doctorate or Master's degree in relevant field and experience
  • Proficiency in Python/R, statistical modeling & ML
  • Azure ML, Databricks, or similar experience
  • Hypothesis testing, experiment design & reporting
  • Communication and collaboration skills

How you can make an impact:

You’ll be working in the Azure, Windows, and Industry Monetization organization in the group that is focused on global Azure growth and yield management. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will use your expertise in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems for customers. You will have the opportunity to significantly impact Microsoft’s Azure growth and monetization strategy.

 

You will work with diverse data sets, apply advanced statistical and computational techniques, and communicate your findings and recommendations to various audiences. You will also collaborate with Microsoft engineering, business planning, and product teams to provide feedback and insights. You will uphold the highest standards of ethics, privacy, and trustworthiness in your work.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics,
    • Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in basic hypothesis testing, p-values and trustworthy experiment design.
  • Proficiency in data science experimentation methods, such as cross validation, regularization, encoding, or activation functions.
  • Experience in programming languages, such as Python, R, C#, or Java, and software development techniques, such as CI/CD, Docker, or REST API.
  • Proficiency in data science tools, deployment technologies, and frameworks, such as Azure Machine Learning, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Databricks, Kubernetes or Azure Functions, Hadoop, Spark, Delta Lake, MLflow, or TensorFlow.

 Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results))
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in communicating with clarity and impact, such as influencing others.

Data Science IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Understand the business objectives and challenges of customers and partners and formulate data-driven solutions.
  • Acquire, prepare, and analyze data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Select and apply appropriate machine learning models and algorithms to address specific problems and scenarios.
  • Train, optimize, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models at scale, using Microsoft tools and frameworks.
  • Present and explain the results and implications of data analysis and modeling to senior customer stakeholders.
  • Research and keep up with the latest industry trends, technologies, and advances in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft program managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions and customer satisfaction.
  • Mentor other team members.
  • Contribute to data-driven culture by collaborating with product and engineering teams across Azure to establish and share best practices.
