This Senior Software Engineer (Java) role at PayPal involves designing and developing software for consumer-focused products. The responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers, driving technical excellence, identifying application improvements, enhancing coding practices, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and estimating effort for feature delivery. The engineer will also develop and implement tests, participate in code reviews, write unit, integration, and functional tests, and provide production support. Must have:
  • 5+ years of software design and development experience, preferably Java.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and principles.
  • Knowledge of design patterns and clean code.
  • Experience with Unit/Integration/EndToEnd testing.
  • Familiarity with application architectures.
  • Experience with Unix-based development environment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and continuous delivery tools.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools.
  • Experience with SOR and data persistence technologies.
  • Experience with designing and implementing REST APIs.
  • Experience with message queue delivery systems.
  • Knowledge of Microservice Architectures.
  • Technical Leadership experience.
  • Experience with Dockerization and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with data-stream technologies like Kafka.
  • Experience with message-queue technologies like RabbitMQ.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient B2 Upper intermediate in English.

• You will have an impact on Remittances products around the world. You’ll leverage your experience and expertise to better understand our customers, identify opportunities, and improve our products and services by creating first class solutions aligned with PayPal objectives.
• You will work with a cross-functional team and across multiple organizations to deliver secure, highly available, high throughput systems that realize the promise of remittances and digital commerce to create a more accessible, efficient, and inclusive global payment system.

Meet our team
Xoom enables customers to easily and securely send remittances to recipients in over 150 countries, providing services such as bank, card and mobile wallet deposits, bill payment, mobile reloads and cash delivery, through a network of over 100 different 3rd party integrations. We seek to expand our integrations, functionality, and use cases to reflect the changing commerce landscape to further leverage digital currencies and mobile wallets, while improving scalability, throughput, reliability and integration velocity. We intend for our platform to be the foundation of functionality in the PayPal app that is used by millions of people around the world.

Job Description:

  • Design and develop software to support consumer-focused products.
  • This role requires you to be able to mentor new hires and other junior engineers in the team. 
  • Drive technical excellence projects engaging other engineers.
  • Identify and propose application improvements.

Your day-to-day

In your day-to-day role, you will: 

  • Enhance our culture of good design, coding and testing practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers and app engineers to conceptualize and build features, including accurately estimating the effort and delivering features on schedule. 
  • Develop & implement tests for ensuring the quality, performance and scalability of our services. 
  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing. 
  • Write unit, integration and functional tests thoroughly. 
  • Bear ownership in the entire process of getting code from your computer to production. 
  • Engage proactively in monitoring and provide necessary production support. 
  • Participate in overall hiring process as part technical interview panel. 

What you need to bring: 

  • 5+ years of track record in designing and writing understandable, testable and easy to maintain. software, preferable Java and Spring framework. 
  • Software development experience with object-oriented programing and principles. 
  • Creative problem solving, design patterns and clean code. 
  • Focused on code quality; Unit/Integration/EndToEnd testing. 
  • Familiar with application architectures. 
  • Experience with unix based development environment. 
  • Familiar with devOps and continuous delivery process and tools. 
  • Familiar with Monitoring and Alerting tools. 
  • Experience with any SOR (System of Record), data persistence technologies, relational database, etc. 
  • Experience with designing and implementing Rest APIs. 
  • Experience with message queue delivery system. 
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Microservice Architectures. 
  • Technical Leadership experience. 
  • Experience with Dockerization and Kubernetes. 
  • Experience with data-stream technologies like Kafka. 
  • Experience working with message-queue technologies like RabbitMQ. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field.
