Senior UX Designer needed for a medical technology company advancing surgery through AI, computer vision, and AR. The role focuses on the design and usability of a surgical navigation system and associated data products. Responsibilities include user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing), creating user journey maps and personas, translating research into design concepts and prototypes, collaborating with cross-functional teams, iterating on workflow and interaction designs, utilizing existing design systems, and measuring the impact of design changes. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of UX design and research experience, proficiency in design tools (Figma, Miro), and a strong understanding of user-centered design principles. Experience in the medical device industry and familiarity with relevant regulations (IEC 62366-1, FDA Human Factors Guidance, IEC 62304) is highly desirable.

Project description

Client advances surgery through a proprietary platform that synthesizes artificial intelligence, computer vision and augmented reality. Client's flagship system is an advanced surgical navigation system that provides critical information unifying pre-operative imaging and planning with intraoperative performance data. This is an opportunity to work on innovative medical products that make a real difference in healthcare. Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and experienced UX Designer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving discovery, design, workflows and usability testing activities for both our surgical navigation product and data products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in user research, UX design, and a good understanding of the software development lifecycle. Experience in the medical product industry and familiarity with hardware/software integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

Conduct user research through customer interviews, surveys, and usability testing to gather insights and identify user needs, pain points, and behaviors.

Create and maintain user journey maps, personas, and scenarios to inform design decisions.

Translate research findings into presentations, design concepts, requirements, wireframes, and prototypes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, product owners, UX designers, engineers, and stakeholders, to ensure user-centered design principles are integrated throughout the development process.

Develop and iterate on workflow and interaction designs, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Utilize existing Design System and UI styles to maintain design consistency across products.

Always learning about new industry trends, competitor medical devices, best practices, and emerging technologies in UX design and research.

Focus on streamlining workflows and improving the efficiency of user interactions to enhance overall user satisfaction and productivity.

Identify opportunities to optimize and simplify complex processes, reducing cognitive load and minimizing user errors.

Measure the impact of design changes on user efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring that the UX improvements directly contribute to better user outcomes and experiences.

Skills

Must have

Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in UX design and user research

Experience conducting user research, including customer interviews, usability testing, and creating user journey maps.

Familiarity with hardware/software integration and the challenges associated with designing for both.

Proficiency in design and prototyping tools. We use Figma and Miro.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex research findings into actionable design solutions.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present ideas and influence stakeholders effectively.

Knowledge of software development processes and the ability to work closely with development teams to ensure design implementation.

Strong proficiency in interaction design, with a solid understanding of user-centered design principles.

5+ years of experience in UX design and user research, with a proven track record of shipping products—from design and user testing to implementation and release—while gathering and applying feedback to continuously improve the user experience.

Experience in the medical product industry, preferably including familiarity with IEC 62366-1 (application of usability engineering to medical devices), FDA Human Factors Guidance, and IEC 62304 (software lifecycle processes for medical devices).

Must be local to Seattle area.

Nice to have

Experience working in a regulated industry

i.e. medical devices, government, aviation, automotive, aerospace, etc.

Familiarity with UI kits and/or design systems and maintaining design consistency across products.

Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices in medical device design.

Experience with Jira and Agile methodology.

Experience designing for 3D applications or in 3D modeling
