Job Description

The Senior Weapon Artist will design and model weapons for Cyberpunk: Orion. Daily responsibilities include 3D modeling, interpreting weapon designs, hard surface modeling, texturing and material creation with PBR knowledge, assisting in pipeline creation, creating documentation, writing briefs for the weapon art team, and collaborating with various teams. The role requires mentoring other artists and addressing both gameplay and aesthetic challenges. This role is crucial to creating an immersive player experience by designing memorable weapons of the Cyberpunk universe.
Must have:
  • 7+ years experience in games, preferably focused on hardsurface modeling for weapons.
  • Experience working on AAA titles.
  • Proficiency in Blender and Substance Painter.
  • Strong understanding of material surfaces and their visual communication.
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical function and purpose.
  • Ability to learn new tools quickly and effectively.
  • Knowledge about weapon design across various eras and genres.
  • Team player approach, taking direction, and reacting to stakeholder feedback.
Good to have:
  • Passion for mechanics, weapons, cars, and technology.
  • Basic skills in rough sketching, drawing, and overpainting.
  • Understanding of the Unreal Engine.
  • Basic understanding of Autodesk Maya.

Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is looking for an experienced Senior Weapon Artist to work on Cyberpunk: Orion, the follow up to Cyberpunk 2077 and the next game in the franchise. As a Senior Weapon Artist, you will contribute to an immersive player experience by designing and modelling memorable weapons of the Cyberpunk universe. 

Daily Responsibilities

  • Outstanding 3D modeling skills, including low-poly, high-poly, and mid-poly workflows, as well as UV mapping and baking, with a high level of independence.
  • Interpreting weapons designs from detailed concepts.
  • Hard surface modeling of weapons, props, or possibly vehicles with mechanical articulation for accurate functionality.
  • Strong skills in texturing and material creation with a solid understanding of Physically Based Rendering (PBR).
  • Assisting in the creation of pipelines and workflows for weapons creation and customization in Unreal Engine.
  • Creating documentation for workflows or pipelines.
  • Writing and preparing briefs for the weapon art team, as well as for outsourcing or other development partners.
  • Working with the Concept Art, Art Direction, Animation, and Gameplay teams to address both gameplay and aesthetic challenges.
  • Mentoring other hardsurface/weapon artists.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience in the games, preferably focused on hardsurface modeling for weapons and props.
  • Experience working on AAA titles.
  • Proficiency in Blender  and Substance Painter for modeling, texturing tasks.
  • Strong background in traditional art skills, understanding fundamentals like proportion, scale, value, and color theory.
  • A strong understanding of material surfaces and the ability to communicate them visually.
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical function and purpose and the ability to create believable assets.
  • The ability to learn new tools quickly and effectively.
  • Knowledge about weapon design across various eras and genres.
  • Team player approach, taking direction, and reacting to stakeholder feedback.

Nice to Have

  • Passion for mechanics, weapons, cars, and technology.
  • Basic skills in rough sketching, drawing, and overpainting.
  • Understanding of the Unreal Engine.
  • Basic understanding of Autodesk Maya.

Artists should include a portfolio to their application.

Additional Information

Work model

In-office in a hybrid or full-time capacity in Warsaw, Poland. 
Relocation is required.
