Job Description

Larian Studios is searching for a VFX Director to join their team and help craft high-caliber games. You'll be responsible for developing the look and feel of visual effects that align with the project's stylistic guidelines, presenting concepts to creative directors and other departments, and providing direction and creative ideas to the VFX team. You'll also work on optimizing VFX for better performance without sacrificing quality, and guide R&D to experiment with new industry technology and trends to improve visual quality and efficiency.
Must have:

As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a VFX Director to join the team and help us in crafting the high caliber games our fans have come to expect.

The VFX team's mission is to craft impressive spells that feel magical, believable, and understandable: spells that tell a story and suspend disbelief. They also create memorable environment effects that make the world feel alive and fantastical, effects that support the mood and emotion of places and events, enhancing the overall player experience. 

Responsibilities

• Develop look and feel of VFX that fit projects’ stylistic guidelines.
• Present concepts and ideas to creative director and other departments, interpreting feedback and making recommendations where appropriate.
• Communicate with art directors, designers, animation director, and producers.
• Provide direction and generate conceptual and creative ideas for the VFX team. Balance visual satisfaction and gameplay clarity that communicate essential game information.
• Understand ongoing and upcoming needs of the VFX department.
• Anticipate and solve technical challenges within given constraints and visual requirements.
• Stay up-to-date and be aware of current trends of the game industry.
• Identify and set up best practices of VFX workflow.
• Supervise and inspire VFX artists to produce outstanding work.
• Optimization of VFX for better performance without sacrificing quality of end product.
• Guide R&D to experiment with new industry technology and trends to improve the projects’ visual quality and efficiency


Requirements

• Professional VFX experience in the game industry.
• Have successfully shipped AAA titles.
• Experience in building and leading VFX team.
• Excellent knowledge of techniques (particle effects, modeling, textures, shaders) and tools (Houdini, Maya, Substance Designer, UE4, Unity) necessary to the creation of high quality real-time visual effects.
• Ability to mentor staff.
• Passion and ability to work as a positive, collaborative, enthusiastic, ambitious and contributing team member with a real desire to work with the team to find solutions.
• Excellent presentation skills to inspire the VFX team and to present goals and creative vision.
• Adaptability to various aesthetic and animation styles.
• Experience mitigating and resolving risks.

• You will be working with different teams so you must be willing and able to travel from time to time to our other studios.

La mission de l’équipe d’effets visuels consiste à créer des sorts impressionnants, crédibles et compréhensibles donnant une impression de magie : des sorts qui racontent une histoire et en lesquels on croit. L’équipe crée également des effets environnementaux mémorables qui donnent vie au monde et lui confèrent une dimension fantastique, des effets qui soutiennent l’ambiance et l’émotion propres aux lieux et aux événements, et améliorent ainsi l’expérience joueur générale. 

Responsabilités

• Développer des effets visuels dont l’apparence correspond au profil stylistique du projet
• Présenter des idées et des concepts au directeur créatif et aux différents départements, interpréter les commentaires faits en retour et faire des recommandations au besoin
• Communiquer avec les directeurs artistiques, les concepteurs, le directeur de l’animation et les producteurs
• Offrir une direction, et générer des idées originales et des concepts pour l’équipe d’effets visuels Amener un équilibre entre la satisfaction visuelle et la clarté des éléments de jeux qui donnent des informations essentielles au joueur
• Comprendre les besoins actuels et futurs du département des effets visuels
• Anticiper et résoudre les défis techniques qui se présentent à vous en respectant les contraintes et les exigences visuelles
• Vous tenir à l’affût des tendances du moment dans l’industrie des jeux vidéos
• Identifier et mettre en place les meilleures pratiques en matière de processus de travail en effets visuels
• Inspirer les artistes en effets visuels à produire leur meilleur travail et superviser leur production
• Optimiser les effets visuels pour une meilleure performance, sans toutefois sacrifier la qualité du produit fini
• Inviter le département de recherche et développement à expérimenter avec les nouvelles technologies et tendances de l’industrie pour améliorer la qualité visuelle et l’efficience du projet


Profil recherché

• Expérience professionnelle dans l’industrie du jeu vidéo
• Avoir contribué au lancement de jeux AAA
• Expérience dans la constitution et la direction d’une équipe d’effets visuels
• Excellente connaissance des techniques (effets de particules, modélisation, textures, nuanceurs) et des outils (Houdini, Maya, • • • Substance Designer, UE4, Unity) nécessaires à la création d’effets visuels en temps réel de qualité supérieure
• Habileté à agir comme mentor auprès des membres de l’équipe
• Passion, capacité à avoir une attitude positive, collaborative, enthousiaste et ambitieuse, volonté de contribuer au succès de l’équipe et réel désir de travailler avec l’équipe pour trouver des solutions
• Grande habileté à présenter les choses, pour inspirer l’équipe d’effets visuels et pour bien illustrer les objectifs et la vision créative
• Capacité à s’adapter à une variété d’esthétiques de styles d’animation
• Expérience dans la réduction des risques et la résolution de leurs effets
• Grande habileté de recherche diagnostique et de résolution de problème
