Job Description

The Lead Technical Revenue Accountant at GoFundMe will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of revenue recognition. This involves leading journal entry preparation, reconciliations, and implementing revenue recognition policies compliant with ASC 606. The role requires collaboration with various teams (FP&A, Accounting, Legal, Tax, Product) to design, implement, and test revenue recognition systems and enhancements within the ERP. Responsibilities include researching complex contractual arrangements, providing technical guidance on new business models, and tracking revenue-related contracts. The ideal candidate will have 5-6+ years of accounting experience (Big 4 and industry experience preferred), a CPA (or equivalent), strong technical accounting skills, and expertise in US GAAP and ASC 606. They should be highly analytical, detail-oriented, and adept at working in a fast-paced environment.

Join us! The GoFundMe team is searching for our next Lead Technical Revenue Accountant! Our Lead Technical Revenue Accountant reports to the Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting and will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of revenue recognition, leading cross-functional collaboration to manage the complexities of the revenue process, and proactively addressing challenges to maintain compliance with accounting standards. This role will be instrumental in supporting timely and accurate financial reporting and fostering continuous improvements to enable the successful execution of scalable, high-impact business initiatives.

  • Lead and influence the preparation and review of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules during month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
  • Research, document, and implement revenue recognition policies, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and addressing complex contractual arrangements.
  • Provide technical guidance on new business models and product launches, assessing revenue implications and aligning them with accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive the design, implementation and testing of new revenue recognition systems, enhancements, and integrations with ERP systems.
  • Track and review revenue related contracts to ensure revenue implications are documented and in compliance with the company’s revenue policy.
  • Engage and align multiple business partners such as FP&A, Accounting, Legal, Tax, Product in the development of standard operating procedures as they impact the revenue process and top line results and proactively ensure that all revenue impacting activities are thoroughly assessed for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead strategic revenue accounting projects and other process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Assist in ad-hoc analyses and projects for the revenue, finance, accounting and tax teams.

You…

  • 5-6+ years experience in accounting with a Big 4 firm combined with industry experience at a large scale company.
  • B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related discipline.
  • CPA certification or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in ledger reconciliation, particularly involving data from payment processors is a plus. 
  • Breadth of experience in US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance.
  • Experience in researching, documenting, and effectively communicating technical accounting matters under ASC 606. 
  • Expert Excel knowledge is required. 
  • Experience working with databases and SQL across standard commercial databases or demonstrated ability to learn these systems is required.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment to proactively drive results - quick to learn and adjust accordingly.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and experience analyzing high volume, multi-currency transactions in a global business environment.
  • Ability to work meticulously and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills - ability to work with a diverse team and impart change across functional and business boundaries.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $100,000-$150,000 + equity + benefits.  As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
