Job Description

Axon is seeking a Mid/Senior Mobile Android Engineer to join their mission to Protect Life. The role involves designing technology that enhances transparency and protects truth, working with a team of engineers, product managers, and designers to create mobile experiences for existing products. You will innovate and bring new mobile applications to market, build high-quality applications using the latest mobile technologies, and contribute to products like Fleet 3 mobile, Axon Device Manager, and Device Pooling Apps. Responsibilities include leading engineering architecture and design reviews, collaborating with product design, driving the mobile software lifecycle, interfacing with cloud services, setting technical standards through code reviews, mentoring engineers, and partnering with Product, Design, and Engineering teams. The role also involves enhancing engineering processes and building robust, mission-critical software. The company emphasizes growth, ownership, and making a difference.
Must have:
  • 6+ years of industry experience shipping Android applications
  • Understand mobile phones and lead mobile design reviews
  • Experience with modern architecture (MVVM, MVI) and unit testing
  • Android experience with Retrofit, Coroutines, Hilt, Jetpack Compose
  • Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON
  • Understanding of networking protocols (TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, SSE, Websockets)
Good to have:
  • Experience with SDKs: Bluetooth, WiFi, Networking, Camera, Audio, File Management
  • Experience connecting to and interacting with third-party hardware
  • Experience with video streaming and IoT devices
  • Connectivity over BLE or Wifi

Your Impact

You will be part of a critical team that designs technology that has a direct impact on increasing transparency and protecting truth. You will work with a team of talented software engineers, product managers and visual designers to create the mobile experience for our existing products. Your experience shipping mobile applications will allow you to rapidly innovate new and existing mobile applications and bring them to market. You will get the opportunity to build high quality applications using the latest mobile technologies available.

Our existing products are already well established in major agencies around the globe. Adding a mobile experience to these systems will unlock even more potential for new and existing customers. Get in early to create the foundation for the mobile experience. This role provides an awesome opportunity to work on our Fleet 3 mobile, Axon Device Manager and Device Pooling Apps for phones and tablets. As part of our mobile team you’ll provide the team with guidance and direction to incorporate some of the latest Android technologies as we deploy our mobile apps to market.

What You’ll Do

Location: HCMC
Reports To: Engineering Manager

  • Lead engineering architecture and design reviews to ensure high standards in software quality.
  • Collaborate with the Axon product design team to turn mobile UI designs into functional, engaging solutions.
  • Drive the entire mobile software lifecycle, from prototyping to commercialization and post-launch support.
  • Interface with cloud services for seamless integration across platforms.
  • Set a high technical standard for the team through code and design reviews.
  • Mentor engineers, fostering growth and technical skill development within the team.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Enhance engineering processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and long-term planning.
  • Build robust and reliable mission critical software that meets high standards for stability in mission-critical applications.
  • Collaborate closely with other groups to align on goals, ensuring we deliver impactful and innovative solutions.

What You Bring

  • 6+ years of industry experience shipping Android applications to the Google Play Store.
  • Understand the ins and out of mobile phones; expected to lead mobile design reviews as well as the implementation of their designs to release and post-release monitoring
  • Experience with modern architecture (MVVM, MVI, etc) including unit testing
  • Android experience with Retrofit, Coroutines, Okhttp, Hilt, Jetpack Compose
  • Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON
  • Understanding and experience with networking protocols such as TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, Server-Sent-Events, Websockets (debugging with Wireshark or Charles a plus)

Nice To Have

  • SDKs: experience related to Bluetooth, WiFi, Networking, Camera (Photo/Video), Audio, File Management, connecting to and interacting with third party hardware
  • Experience working with video streaming and IoT devices / connectivity over BLE or Wifi
